After washing, dyeing and drying these locks are finally ready to show off!
We have had so much rain that the drying processes took 3x as long 😅
These locks are from Maryland grown BFL (blue faced Leicester) sheep. I love how curly and springy they are. These are perfect for felting or spinning.

Let's try this reel again, but this time with audio. This is how I wash and dry raw fleeces. I use unicorn fiber power scour to remove the dirt and lanolin in 140° water. Make sure when you're switching between rinse Waters that the temperature is close to the water the wool is in so you don't shock the wool and felt the fibers.

Zen Fiber Arts grew out of a love for fiber arts and stress relief. Owner, Heather Kennedy, uses her creative outlet to feature small-batch, hand dyed yarns and fibers, handspun yarn, and kits for beginners and seasoned fiber artists. Small batch dyeing allows for one-of-a-kind projects for that extra something special. Find Heather's work as part of the Invitational Fine Arts & Crafts Show at the Free LakeFest Weekend, June 12-14. columbiafestival.org/gallery/zen-fiber-arts

It's shearing day at the local farm I work with. A passion of mine is supporting small farms to bring American wool to you.

Today I brought home 11 fleeces for hand spinning, dyeing and turning into yarn. I love the bounce of these fleeces and the spring of the locks. Some locks will stay as they are and are perfect for needle felting.
