There are so many custom touches in this bathroom that make it truly one of a kind. From the custom colored cement tile for the backsplash, the custom arched mirrors to mimic the arched window in the space, to the custom cabinetry, each detail was thought out way before demolition began, resulting in a soothing and unique result in our .

While shopping for art for another project, I realized that my own home didn't have a ton of wall space to hang art. When designing our I chose to put in as many windows as possible, using the landscape outside the home to be the art inside the home. It also helps to bring in natural light and make the somewhat small home feel larger. It's not how big your house it, it's how it functions and how it makes you feel that's important.

This new basement bathroom in our feels like it's always been, thanks to the antique sink that we took from another bathroom in the home. We couldn't bear to get rid of this piece so we designed the new bathroom around it. Terracotta based zellige tile speaks to the Spanish style of the home without being on the nose, and the blue color makes this tiny bathroom special.

Quality upholstery is essential when designing a home. You could find something cheaper online, but having a design professional who understands construction, the effect of the right fabric on the right piece, and can test drive the pieces for you at the various furniture markets around the country is incomparable. You'll be happier with the result, it will last longer, ultimately saving you money, and is better for the planet. Because, where does all that furniture go when you're done with it? Furniture is not a disposable product.

How many loads of laundry do you do a week? Do you batch it and get it all done at once, or do a little each day? I'm a two-a-day kind of person, but only at the beginning of the week, then I need a break. Regardless of your method, why not do it in a space you enjoy?

I saw on social media that the girl that this bedroom belongs to just turned 13. It's amazing how time flies, but what doesn't age is good design. We always strive to walk the line between current and classic, something that fits within the design of the moment but also won't feel trendy in a couple years. We do this by identifying our client's style, listening to the architecture of the home, and pulling from tried and true design. For example, we wanted to use a bold print in this bedroom, so we matched the drapes to the shades, a traditional design technique, but using a palette of dusty rose and brown kept it from being to sweet.

I prefer to do homes with an architectural style, it gives me something to work off of. It doesn't really matter what the style is, I love so many, but something is better than nothing. But just because your home is of a certain style, doesn't mean that it has to be held hostage to that style. It should be more of an inspiration, but you still have to live there and have it be a reflection of you. In our project, we kept the dark wood and iron accents typical of that style, but used it in a more modern and clean lined way, like with this dining room. Nothing too ornate or flashy, but you can see the soul of the home in the choices that we made.

Sending my first child off to college means I'm having a bit of a change of lifestyle (although I still have one in high school), but I'm also reflecting on the lessons I hopefully taught my son to aid him in becoming a full fledged, functioning human. One such important skill: laundry. I didn't go so far as to make my kids do all their laundry, but they definitely have to help and they know how it "should" be done. In my world there is always a right way and a wrong way to do things (thanks mom and grandma!). The most important part is, if you are able, to have a well designed and functional laundry room. In design school I think I was the only one that put laundry rooms in my floor plans! After living for years without a proper laundry room, I know it's a luxury, so let's not ignore it and make it a beautiful addition to your home, just like we did in our project pictured here.

Beyond residential design, we are often asked to do offices and commercial projects, including multifamily homes and vacation rentals. Such was the case for this attorney's office. After remodeling his house, he couldn't bear going to an industrialized office that lacked personality. We were able to easily transform his space into something inviting, comfortable AND functional by drenching the space in a rich blue, designing tailored and comfortable seating spaces, and even being able to provide two desks and plenty of storage to actually get work done.

More than just picking out finishes, designers are intimately involved in how you live your life in order to help you make the best decisions about how to design your home. In the case of our project, we knew that the morning coffee ritual was important (when is it not?), and that with 3 daughters, the dishwasher was the hardest working appliance in the home. Armed with this information, we designed a hidden coffee station behind the cabinet doors on the left, and double dishwashers with matching panels so they didn't feel like they were in a restaurant kitchen. The effect allows the kitchen to stay tidy and looking good will still being functional for a busy family.
