What is one of those tools in your shop that you never realized how useful it is until you got it?

Well for me it’s the Shaper Shaper Origin. If you remember a few years back I did a room divider panel. Well that job paid for this tool and since has been paid for itself multiple times. It’s so much fun having a handheld cnc machine. I use it often for inlays like I’m doing here for a 4” diameter ceramic coaster in this redwood slab countertop. It’s also great for precise joinery, making any size template, hinge holes, engraving. If you don’t have one, you should if you do custom woodwork. It may not be used everyday, but when it’s needed it completes the task perfectly!

One of my new favorite machines in the shop is this .america hinge boring machine. No more days using the old sloppy drill press and homemade fence. This machine is a dream to use and so well made in Italy. And I can’t tell you the deal I got on this machine. It’s too good to be true and that’s why I love working with .

The whiskey wall cabinet is officially on the website for a class all to take. In this class you will learn how to do dovetails by hand with the help of the bandsaw. You’ll use the router to route stopped dadoes and grooves. You’ll learn a little bit about veneering for the door center panel and rear panel. And you’ll learn how to mortise out for traditional butt hinges.

The dates are:
May 7th, 8th, 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd, 28th, 29th Thursdays & Fridays at 6:30pm - 9:30pm

One of 4 steps on the router table to make these column bases

The makings of column bases for a 100+yr old house in Bellport. It took some time to figure out the best way to make them. So we decided on a 3 layer cake of profiles. 4 different profiles on the router table and a custom made circle fence to make it all safe. Stay tuned for some finished pics once the contractor installs the columns.

The reeded credenza sure looks nice with the stone top. What do you all think?

This was a fun project and a work of art once it was all complete. It features solid maple dovetailed drawers with soft closing Salice slides. The center part is a Rev a Shelf pan organizer. And the reeded fronts were made with the ShopFox moulder and a reeded casing moulding knife.

Now onto the next project for the same customer. A arched hutch with glass doors and drawers. Stay tuned…
