What really goes on at High Point Market?

Lots of sitting around, apparently.

But when you’re shopping for furniture, testing out every sofa and chair is just part of the research, right?

High Point Market checklist:

☑️ See lots of beautiful pieces
☑️ Find inspiration around every corner
☑️ Bump into old friends
☑️ Make some new ones
☑️ Discover new companies and collections
☑️ Source some goodies for the shop + design projects
☑️ Come home with more ideas than I know what to do with 😂

Another High Point Market in the books! Lots of walking, lots of looking and plenty of exciting finds.

Now comes the fun part of bringing some of those finds back to the shop and putting all that inspiration to work in projects.

Sometimes it takes just ONE detail for a client to finally see the vision coming together!

This renovation has been months in the making. Seeing the new railing installed was the turning point for my client.

Renovations aren’t always easy. There’s noise, dust, people coming and going and sometimes you’re even displaced from your own home. It can feel like everything is being torn apart instead of put back together.

So hearing my client say she can finally see the design coming together MADE MY DAY!

I can see how all the pieces will come together long before they’re in place. But one of the most rewarding parts of my job is that moment when my client starts to see it too!

We still have a few weeks to go as we wait for cabinetry, tile and furniture to arrive but we’re getting closer!

Not every home needs a complete makeover.

Sometimes it needs a better layout, a fresh perspective or someone to help make sense of all the possibilities.

At Susan Teachey Design, we do everything from furniture selections and space planning to full renovations and complete home transformations.

We also design vacation rentals, creating spaces that look great, function well and hold up to plenty of guests.

Whether it’s one room or an entire home, the goal is always the same: beautiful, functional spaces that feel like you.

And that’s the part I love most about what I do.

You’ll find our design studio inside Curated Pawleys | Interior Design + Gifts, along with a shop full of furnishings, fabrics, finishes + plenty of inspiration. Stop by and see us!

Apparently, a large part of interior design is just trying to get answers from different people.

Some days I’m asking the questions. Other days I’m the one being asked.

Either way, we’re all just trying to get this project finished!

A few days in Chicago with SKS touring the showroom, watching kitchen demos and getting a closer look at what luxury appliances can really do.

I always love the learning part of trips like this, but getting to do it with this group made it even better. VRD is such a collaborative group. We share ideas, ask questions, compare notes and genuinely want to see each other succeed.

A lot of learning, plenty of inspiration and a whole lot of fun mixed in on this trip! Pretty lucky when this gets to count as work.

We are officially in bathroom renovation season and want to know the feature we’re including more than ever?

Grab bars.

And before you picture something straight out of a hospital bathroom, they have come a long way! They’re prettier, available in great finishes, and can be worked into the design so seamlessly that clients are usually surprised when I point them out.

Because if we can make a bathroom safer without sacrificing the way it looks, why wouldn’t we?

So tell me, style or safety first? My answer: both.

If you’ve met me, this makes complete sense.

There is a very specific amount of space in my brain and apparently most of it is reserved for floor plans, furniture placement, pattern combinations and making things make sense.

It is what it is. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Fortunately, this is exactly the kind of information my clients hire me for. 😂

This kitchen got more than a cosmetic update.

Rotating the island changed how the entire room functioned, opening up the flow and creating a much better work zone. From there we reworked the cabinetry, added storage, lightened the finishes and gave the kitchen a cleaner, more intentional feel.

The blue island became the anchor, but the biggest transformation is really in how the space works.

Swipe to see where it started.

Apparently we nailed the pillow situation. 🐾

Pattern, texture, scale and color all working together, with one very enthusiastic vote of approval.

Sometimes the clearest sign that a room feels comfortable is that someone has already claimed their spot.
