Working on the set to match the drop leaf I posted recently. This is a complete sand down/re-stain with a custom blend and clear topcoat. Oh! And I almost forgot- I am re-upholstering the chairs, too!

✨CUSTOM ORDER, NFS✨

This table caused a stir in the comments when I showed a preview of what I was working on last week. You can swipe over to see the before photo. While I agree, it was a chippy delight, it wasn’t a fit for the beautiful home it sits in front of. And that’s okay, too, because everyone deserves to have a piece that speaks to them and their surroundings. I think the finished product does just that and I love that Debby knew what she wanted!

Sometimes the best part of refinishing furniture is letting a creative idea take an unexpected turn. When painting the gray and green on this table, I knew it needed a little something to break it up. That is when I suggested to her that we add some cream in there. She agreed, and as I proceeded I just got this vintage carnival vibe and ran with it. I “dinged” it up with some antique wax detailing and a little distressing. The octagonal top, sculptural pedestal, and cream accents give this piece so much personality. It’s bold, a little nostalgic, and definitely not your everyday table! See photo 2 where Debby has placed the table on her front porch- I think it looks perfect there and hope she will enjoy it for years to come!

Next up- remember the drop leaf I posted last month? I am now working on refinishing the chairs and 2 leaves. I also have 2 beautiful handmade lawyer book cases and another table in the works! November is already booked with several projects, so my next opening is December. Reach out if you have something that needs a fresh touch!

Today’s custom order was a little out of the norm for me-

Mike and Carol purchased this fun vintage utility chest from me when I owned my shop downtown. They have really enjoyed it in their home but always wished it was a little taller. They commissioned me to come up with an idea that would put it about 29-30” tall.
I found this board in my shed. It has a lot of history, so let’s talk about it for a sec: this is the last board I have that came from a cabin that was torn down near our cabin. The cabin was papered with newspaper from the 1800s!

I needed a wide board, so I cut the board and ripped a piece to add to the width so it would be wide enough. After it was glued and puttied I added some detailing and stained it, stained some legs and added them and Voila! This fun vintage piece now has a leg (or 4) to stand on 😉😉

Let me (re)introduce myself!

I’m Gretchen. Married to my Highschool sweetheart, Idaho natives. Mama of 2 beautiful daughters & Grandma to 2 rambunctious, blue-eyed boys!

I began as Three Blondes One Bright Idea exactly 12 years ago today! Myself and 2 friends started repurposing items and refinishing furniture and held an annual “Shabby Chic Yard Boutique” every September. Eventually life happened and the other two moved on. I opened a boutique in downtown Payette, later purchased a warehouse and remodeled it, moved the boutique and operated it until September 2025. At that time I decided to sell my building so I could watch my grandsons and a couple other kiddos. During this phase of life I never touched a paintbrush once. Well- that’s not true- the kids and I did do lots of art projects 😂. I honestly thought my refinishing days were done, though.

This fall the kids are now all in school and I decided to pick up the paint brush again! I, appropriately, decided a name change was in order- hence the One Blonde, One Bright Idea. I made the announcement in August and have been crazy busy ever since! I just completed my 3rd custom order, have one in the shop and another coming Tuesday. October is already booking up and I couldn’t be happier!

We all go through seasons in life and some seasons are longer and harder than others. I feel so fortunate to be able to get back to doing what I love and spend life doing things with an amazing tribe of people. You all are a part of my journey when you follow along, like, share, and refer me. Thank you so much- your support means the world! 🌎

BLACK BEAUTY!!!! 🖤

This was such a fun refinish! I have done two other pieces for Beckie (see one of them here-the cabinet to the left of the table) and she wanted her table to match.
I took a little unannounced liberty and did some detailing on the wood surfaces to tie it all together. Thankfully Beckie loved it! 😂

BEFORE & AFTER Custom order, NFS.

This vintage Duncan Fife table is a QUEEN. It’s one of those pieces that even though it wasn’t practical initially in Liz’s home- she just could not get rid of it. Having built a new home she has decided it now has a place, but definitely needed a makeover.

It isn’t always easy matching stain but overall this custom blend turned out beautifully and will last for years to come.

While this dining table set is beautiful as is, it didn’t match the aesthetic in Beckie’s home. She has a couple of other pieces I have refinished for her and she wanted this set to be a more cohesive fit.

YAY! You came back for the reveal! 🥰

This beautiful, quality dresser and nightstand came over from Meridian to get a moody makeover.

The “new do” in blue looks so good with the warm top and updated hardware in brushed gold, but the proof that this makeover is 🔥 came from the big hug I received when Kimberly saw her set during the reveal.

Have I told you all how happy I am to be back at this?! Timing is everything. And my time is now.
