For the last 650 years, the call to prayer comes through Sultan Hassan's glorious mosque and school. Listen to this call from a video I captured March/Ramadan 2026 when I returned back to the mosque for the first time in 11 years. Streets were empty completely as everyone went back home to break their fast 💕🇪🇬😊

عن القهوة والقاهرة ❣️☕
Cairo's history with coffee needs to be told, and the reemerging coffee culture deserves some attention. This visit I noticed that a lot more Egyptians are drawn into the magical drink, cafes and coffee shops and stands are popping up all over the city. From traditional coffee shops serving spiced and roasted coffee, to small stalls out of car trunks, and all the way to themed western, eastern and modern cafes. I've taken some photos for a few places I visited this time but not everything has an account on Instagram.

There are no words to describe how much this place means and represents to many Egyptians and yet how it is a hidden gem many also don't know much about. I've been separated for years from accessing the beauty, serenity, glory, and sacredness you sense upon approaching Sultan Hassan's mosque and madrasa. I remember showing HD footage of the place at several years ago and how the audience was taken away by how massive and beautiful the structure of this centuries old mosques and school is.
I prayed to God to be able to come back. I did after 11 long years and brought my little one along.

A few nights ago I was blessed by joining Ramadan night prayers in a rare rainy night in dry Cairo. As I was rushing I captured a few photos to share with you. ❤️❤️🇪🇬🥰 Have you ever seen this mosque or anything similar?

After leaving Egypt in 2015 so much more changed in terms of public displays during cultural, religious, and spiritual holidays. I have visited both traditional areas of Cairo to explore and witness the different ways Egyptians of different backgrounds celebrate and show their excitement about Ramadan. It is remarkable and lovely to see how visible Ramadan is in Egypt. Those photos are in different parts of Masr El Gedida/ Heliopolis.

It's this time of year again and I recall making my own Ramadan crafts in 2016 in the United States because it wasn't a thing yet to decorate or do Ramadan activities 😅
Alhamdulellah every year more and more people find ways to engage children and adults around the most special months for millions around the world. We enjoyed the craft table during Islamic Heritage Month celebration at and Mrs Shimaa couldn't stop herself from covering all the markers and glue bottles while making art herself with little Bobo 😂🥰 We took some of our pieces home and continued. Thank you to the organizers for the children's program and let's see how we can keep our little ones excited for Ramadan and Eid this year 🎊🥰

In 2019, I was so far away from watching an emerging cultural shift happening: Egyptians were fighting to save endangered crafts and show the beautiful mosaic of arts still practiced until today. I fell in love with and was missing seeing patterns, Fawanees (Ramadan lanterns) and everything I grew up with. I decided to get crafts from Egypt to educate about our underrepresented cultures in the United States. This is how .traditions was born. A desire to show everyone around me the magic I left behind.

I combined this with my educational programs at schools, early learning centers, public libraries, and community events. Today there are more and more content creators than ever creating cultural content around their heritage and it's wonderful to see that I'm not alone. Tagging some creators to shed light .grow.philly
