Facebook Friday Fireplace Tip if the Week! Have your fireplace inspected by educated Fireplace & Chimney Professionals. Today’s tip is about smoke chambers. Smoke chambers are a very weak link in your fireplace/chimney system that is almost always overlooked. Open holes and joints in a smoke chamber mean the smoke and heat are going to unknown portions of your chimney chase where it could possibly reach combustibles.
For example, when inspections are performed, often times we encounter the roof rafters touching the chimney where as they should have a distance from touching any wood. The distance with a chimney going through the center of the house is 2”, while chimney structures on the outside wall of a house is a 1 1/2”. If a chimney fire exists, the brick can become hot enough to ignite the wood rafters and now your chimney fire is no longer a chimney fire it is a house fire. Please have your fireplace inspected to see if there is any hidden areas of concern. Give us a call before it’s to late, we are getting booked up fast for this upcoming season. Be safe and have a great weekend!

Maximizing the amount of water off of your chimney can prolong the life of the chimney. Moisture can seep in over time and damage can occur. A good solution can be installing a chimney cap that covers the entire chimney. Waterproofing your chimney on a regular basis will also help fight against water damage. Have your fireplace and chimney inspected by a CSIA professional. Call us for all of your fireplace and chimney needs. 309-361-0841

Chimney Caps. When people ask, “do I really need a chimney cap?” My answer will always be yes. The picture on the left shows a typical rain gauge. It is exactly that, a way to measure the amount of rain in inches. As you can see it is very small, the opening being less than 2 square inches.
On the right side picture is 1 chimney with 2 flue tiles servicing 2 fireplaces. 1 fireplace upstairs and 1 fireplace downstairs. Both inside flue tile measurements are 144 square inches totaling 288 square inches. Water can destroy your flue, fireplace and chimney. Just because you can’t see it, doesn’t mean damage isn’t there. Please call to have a chimney cap installed and preserve your biggest investment. Protect your home from water damage. 309-361-0841
