High performers don’t wait for the boss to train them.

In schools, the strongest leaders and teachers I know are always learning. They read. They reflect. They ask better questions. They sharpen their craft long before anyone asks them to.

The strongest leaders don't count how many people follow them they count how many people they've helped rise.

I used to measure my success by the size of my team and the scope of my authority.

More direct reports. Bigger budgets. Higher titles on my org chart.

Then one day, a former team member sent me a message: "I just got promoted to a leadership role. I wouldn't be here without everything you taught me. Thank you."

That hit different.

I realized I'd been tracking the wrong metric entirely.

Real leadership isn't about building a kingdom it's about building other leaders.

It's not about:
β†’ How many people report to you
β†’ How indispensable you've made yourself
β†’ How much credit lands on your desk

It's about:
β†’ How many people grew under your guidance
β†’ How many careers you accelerated, not just managed
β†’ How many leaders you created, not just followers

The leaders who obsess over loyalty and control? They build empires that crumble the moment they leave.

The leaders who invest in people's growth? They build legacies that multiply long after they're gone.

Your job isn't to be the smartest person in the room forever. It's to make sure you won't be.

Mentor someone who could take your job. Champion someone who's underestimated. Share the credit. Open doors. Make introductions. Teach what you know.

Because at the end of your career, nobody's going to ask how many people worked for you. They're going to ask how many people are better off because they worked with you.
