While the official Local Yarn Shop Day is Saturday, 25 April, we’re making it LOCAL YARN SHOP WEEKEND and also celebrating it on Sunday, 26 April, because, well, why not?!

Hours:
Saturday 10 am to 7 pm
Sunday 11 am to 5 pm

BRAND NEW to the shop as of Friday afternoon is a large volume of DMC and other branded embroidery/cross stitch floss available in a very wide selection of colors.

All raffles will continue through Sunday!

A sincere thanks to Kim for pointing out the mistaken date on the first post. Correcting the mistake gives us a chance to introduce you to the most recent member of our backyard wild animal menagerie, Painty the Porcupine. Prior wandering into our backyard, Painty seems to have had a run-in with some bright green paint, which was very obvious when it decided to come up on the step to the deck, mere inches from my feet. After checking me out, Painty stepped back, made a tiny snort, and proceeded to turn around and make an impressive display of the quills, and chattered as it slowly strolled away, looking over its shoulder repeatedly to ensure it wasn’t followed. We’ve since seen Painty every day in the backyard, enjoying the green grass and roots and whatever else it desires. And we’re delighted to report that the small paint splotch is gone and the larger one is fading. Painty joins the 5 deer who regularly visit the yard, a bobcat and her 2 kittens, the gorgeous coyote that wanders through at times, a couple of resident barred owls, a long-eared owl, the seemingly never ending rafters of turkeys that a parade through, and a bevy of other wildlife that come and go to enjoy the large expanse of wild grasses and the cool waters of the vernal pools and the protection afforded by the woods on three sides. Every day there’s something new to see and hear simply by opening the curtains and windows and we love it!

Hope to see you in the shop soon and wishing everyone a wonderful weekend!

In Honor of International Women’s Day 2026

“I am woman, hear me roar
In numbers too big to ignore
And I know too much to go back and pretend
‘Cause I’ve heard it all before
And I’ve been down there on the floor
No one’s ever gonna keep me down again

Yes, I am wise
But it’s wisdom born of pain
Yes, I’ve paid the price
But look how much I’ve gained
If I have to, I can do anything
I am strong
(Strong)
I am invincible
(Invincible)
I am woman”

Helen Reddy — I Am Woman (1972)

Once again Mother Nature decided we needed a strong reminder that it’s still winter and boy did she deliver! We have 10-12” of new snow at our house. The birds are quickly eating what were fully stocked seed and suet feeders to the point we need to go out and refill them again or I fear we’ll have an avian rebellion on our hands.

I can’t say enough about how fantastic the town Road Maintenance crews have been. I’ve lost track of how many times they’ve come by our house just in the last 6 hours but it’s rapidly approaching double digits!

Alas it’s lightly snowing again, the wind is blowing again (this time from the northwest), and who knows what things are going to look like in the morning on the roads or in the parking lot. Thus hoping for the best but planning for the worst, the shop will be closed tomorrow. I’ll post an update as soon as I know more in the morning.

As always stay warm, stay inside as much as possible, stay off the roads, and enjoy knitting or crocheting or reading or napping…

Be safe and hope to see everyone soon!

Does your weekend forecast call more 3, 4 or even more inches of snow? Does it include sub zero wind chills down to -20? If so, chances are you are about to experience what has become an all too familiar winter weekend in New Hampshire or one our neighboring states!

And as such, in our the continuing tradition of not wanting anyone to risk life, limb or frostbite, the shop will be closed Saturday through Monday and reopen again on Tuesday, February 10, at 10 am.

Happy knitting or crocheting, or both! Plenty of long winter’s naps are also recommended!

MY WEEKEND KNITTING MANTRA: IF CAN’T CONTROL THE WEATHER, AT LEAST I CAN CONTROL MY TENSION … UNLESS THE POWER GOES OUT, OR THE FIRE WON’T LIGHT, OR IT’S DARK OUTSIDE. THEN ALL BETS ARE OFF AND I’M GOING TO HIDE UNDER THE COVERS WITH A FLASHLIGHT, EXTRA BATTERIES, AND A GOOD BOOK!

STAY WARM, STAY INSIDE AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, AND STAY SAFE!

The forecast calls for another 2-3 inches on Sunday on top of the 5-7 inches we already got. As such the shop will stay closed for the weekend.
