Progress is becoming reality.

This week, our team joined City of Mesa Police Department, Willmeng Construction, City leadership, and community partners for the Headquarters Progress Reveal and MPD Leadership Summit, an opportunity to celebrate how far the project has come and look ahead to what's next.

The event brought together the people helping shape the future of the Mesa Police Department, from project partners and city leaders to the command staff who will ultimately call the renovated headquarters home.

The Chandler Center for the Arts is unlike any other performance venue in Arizona. Known for its rotating theater pods and distinctive interior, the theater has served as a destination for performances, events, and student productions for decades.

After helping renovate the theater lobby several years ago, our team is once again partnering with the City Government of Chandler, Arizona to support the next phase of improvements for the theater itself.

A key focus of the design has been preserving the theater's original wood veneer, an important part of both the building's character and an integral finish on the uniquely engineered rotating theater pods. Implemented upgrades include new seating with integrated lighting, flooring, and interior finishes that complement the existing space while enhancing comfort and accessibility.

Even details like the carpet pattern were carefully considered, balancing visual interest with durability and creating an experience that works for patrons of all ages.

The improvements are designed to enhance the patron experience while respecting the character that has made the venue unique for decades.

Arizona's summer heat is here! Thoughtful design helps buildings do more than withstand it, it helps them respond to it.

At the ASU Health Futures Center, the building's self-shading facade, strategic orientation, carefully angled glazing, and canopy-covered outdoor spaces work together to reduce solar heat gain, limit glare, and maximize natural daylight. The result is a building that responds directly to the challenges of Arizona's climate while creating a more comfortable interior environment.

At Mayo Clinic's Integrated Education and Research Building, shaded outdoor spaces, shade-tolerant native plantings, and passive cooling strategies create a desert oasis. The protected courtyard establishes its own microclimate, offering cooler temperatures and increased comfort while strengthening the connection between the building and its landscape.

Together, these projects demonstrate how design decisions, from building orientation to landscape integration, can shape how people experience Arizona's climate.

Some of the best ideas start with a sketch.

Sketching gives our teams a way to communicate ideas quickly, work through challenges in real time, and explore possibilities before they become fully developed solutions. It creates an open exchange of thinking across the team and often becomes a valuable teaching tool along the way, helping communicate not just what works, but why.

These sketches were developed as part of the ongoing work for the Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport Terminal 3 North 2 Concourse project. As the project continues, this hands-on process remains an important part of how we collaborate, test ideas, and shape the project together from the ground up.

For Sean Ragudo, it was the level of investment DFDG puts into its people, not just in leadership, but across every level of the firm.

Every meaningful space starts long before construction ever begins. For the expansion and renovation of Cornerstone’s worship facility, our team had the opportunity to help shape that journey by adding 600 new auditorium seats while thoughtfully enhancing the overall worship environment.

What begins as lines on paper, wall sections, technical details, and coordinated plans eventually becomes a real space filled with purpose, connection, and daily experience. Each detail, no matter how small, plays a role in bringing the vision to life.

One of the most rewarding parts of the process is watching those ideas move from design documents into built reality. It is where careful planning, collaboration, and craftsmanship all come together to create spaces that truly serve people.

In many cases, the smallest details designed early on become the elements that leave the biggest impression once the space is complete.

From medical office to modern headquarters.

DFDG partnered with Varitec Solutions and Haydon to transform a 36,500 SF building into a workplace that better supports how their team works day-to-day, delivered on a fast-track timeline to keep operations moving.

Phase 1 focused on a full interior renovation, simplifying and streamlining the workplace with ergonomic, height-adjustable workstations, reduced paper storage, and flexible spaces for both in-office staff and visiting field techs. Glass-forward finishes, paired with acoustic and lighting solutions, create a space that feels open but still focused.

A standout executive boardroom uses switchable glass to balance transparency and privacy, with training, collaboration, and quiet work zones layered throughout.

Phase 2 adds a 20,000 SF warehouse, enhanced entry, and site upgrades to support continued growth.

When we’re not in the office, we’re busy building rocket ships 🚀

This past Saturday, Sara Meca and Sarah Salas headed down to Tucson for the annual Death Race, an industry event that brings together partners and clients for a day of racing, competition, and a little creative fun.

Given a standard wooden car kit, they took a different approach, combining their builds into a rocket ship and astronaut. Faster than a car? Obviously.

Their entry sparked nearly 30 minutes of judge deliberation (and a little rule-bending debate), but in the end, creativity won out and so did they!

Big step forward in shaping the future of health education!

DFDG Architecture, alongside CO Architects and McCarthy Building Companies Inc., joined Arizona State University and community leaders to break ground on the new ASU Health Headquarters in downtown Phoenix.

The 175,000 SF facility will anchor a new hub for medical education, research, and innovation, bringing together medicine, engineering, and technology to rethink how care is delivered.

This is more than a building; it connects the people and ideas shaping the future of care.
