Would you propose with a family sapphire ring? 💍💙 I recently inherited a ring from my great-grandmother, and I can’t stop thinking about someday using it as an engagement ring. My grandma’s sister Donna brought a bunch of old family rings to a small gathering at my grandma’s house and started giving them to my sister and cousins. She explained the story behind each one, and everyone was really excited to choose something.

Then she showed this ring, and something about it immediately stood out to me. I thought it was beautiful, meaningful, and way too special to risk being treated like a random accessory. It was my great-grandmother’s ring, and she apparently wore it all the time. I ended up getting it, and now I keep thinking about how special it would be to give it to the woman I marry one day.

The only thing making me nervous is that the center stone is a sapphire instead of a diamond. A lot of my girl friends have told me they only want a diamond engagement ring, and when I explain this one, they don’t seem very excited about it. Their reactions have made me feel less confident, even though I personally love it. I actually think colored stones are beautiful and more interesting than a clear diamond, and this ring still has two side diamonds anyway.

Do you think this could work as an engagement ring, or is a sapphire too risky unless I already know my future partner loves colored stones? Would you keep the original band or update it? 💍

Hi everyone!

I’ve been trying on rings and would love some outside opinions. I keep second-guessing myself because I like different things about each option.

A little context:
- Finger size 5.5
- I prefer a timeless, romantic look
- I’m also trying to think about what will look best with a wedding band

Option 1: Three-stone round center with half moons
Option 2: Three-stone round center with pear side stones
Option 3: Round solitaire with a straight diamond wedding band
Option 4: Elongated cushion with detailed band

Question
- Which engagement ring looks best on my hand?
- I’ve always thought silver looked better on me but now I’m torn.
- Which wedding band pairing looks best?
- ignore if any of the mixed metals

Small update: I had my mom’s ring cleaned and now I don’t know if I want to change it anymore. 💍🤍 I visited a jeweler who specializes in vintage, estate, and heirloom jewelry to talk through my options. She showed me a .5 carat diamond that would be the same size as the middle cluster, and she said I can take all the time I need before deciding whether to alter it.

She was very reassuring and said the change would be pretty without overpowering the ring, but she also pointed out that the piece is already unique just the way it is. She cleaned it for me, checked that all the settings were secure, and made sure it was safe for me to wear while I decide. And wow — after the cleaning, it genuinely feels like a different ring to me. 🤭✨

I’ve loved wearing it these past few days, and now I’m wondering if I should just leave it alone. Thank you to everyone who suggested getting it cleaned first. Now I can look down and see the same ring my mommy said yes to my daddy with, and that feels incredibly special. What would you do?

He proposed with a blue ring AND a Tiffany engagement sword!! 💍💙⚔️ I was expecting a diamond, so when I saw this vivid blue stone, I was definitely surprised — but honestly, I love it. It’s so bright, bold, and different, and now I feel like a diamond would have been almost too expected. The ring already felt special, but then he also gave me an engagement sword from Tiffany & Co. and I just about lost it. I don’t know if I’m a fiancée or a fantasy character now, but either way, I’m thrilled. What do we think?

I loved my ring until other people’s reactions made me sad. 💍🥺 My boyfriend proposed last November with this ring, and at the time I was completely happy. It has a moissanite center stone with real little diamonds around it, and I don’t even know the carat size because that was never important to me. I loved the ring because it came from him, because the proposal was beautiful, and because I know he put real effort into choosing something meaningful.

Then I showed it to friends and colleagues, and their reactions were not what I expected. They didn’t love it, and some of them made me feel like it wasn’t good enough because it isn’t a huge diamond. I know everyone has their own opinions, but it really took the wind out of my sails. I still think it’s beautiful, but now I’m second guessing myself. Does it look good on my hand, or am I being too sensitive? 🤍
