No visit to Pipestone Minnesota is complete without a stop at our two Native American gift shops operated by our local nonprofit Pipestone Indian Shrine Association. One is located inside the Pipestone National Monument’s Visitor Center next to our cultural demonstrators. And, the other shop (Prairie Maiden Treasures) is located in Historic Downtown Pipestone. What a great photo of the Sioux quartzite ridgeline along the Circle Trail! Come visit us !

One of the ways our Pipestone Area Chamber elevates the profile of Pipestone Minnesota is through targeted advertising, made possible in part by a marketing grant from Explore Minnesota Tourism.

As an example, check out our ad in the 📖 March issue of 605 Magazine, which showcases the beauty of the sacred and serene Pipestone National Monument. We ❤️ love sharing our community with visitors from around the World!

We invite both residents and visitors alike to experience this unique, free attraction for yourself!

🎨 This week, Holly Young is the Native American Artist in Residence at Pipestone National Monument! She’ll be creating art and answering questions from Saturday, June 21st through Friday, June 27th. The PNM Visitor Center Hours are 8:30 am until 4:30 pm daily.

In 2023, Holly Young was commissioned by Pipestone National Monument to create the above artwork. The three young women are representative of the Three Maidens located near the Quarry Pond. They are surrounded by blue light to indicate their spiritual nature and are holding prayer ties in open hands indicating that they will receive your gifts. Medicinal plants and prairie flowers grow all around Pipestone National Monument and are also reflected in the work including: prairie rose, rosebud, sand cherries, purple clover, broadleaf arrowhead, daisy fleabane, forget me not, thistle, beard tongue, lead plant, milkweed, sage and purple coneflower. The inclusion of the pipes show how Native Americans use the pipestone quarried at this sacred site. In the background are the Sioux quartzite cliffs found along the Circle Trail.

The Pipestone Indian Shrine Association offers this design in various products at their gift shop located inside the Visitor Center at the Pipestone National Monument. Those include ceramic mugs, magnets, tote bags, prints, and more. This week, you have the opportunity to meet this artist. Stop out, learn about her work, and say hello during her artist in residency time in Pipestone, MN. There are no admission fees to visit the Pipestone National Monument; it is free for all ages. Plus, it's a beautiful time to walk the scenic Circle Trail alive with all of the flora and fauna of Summer.

There will be two additional Native American Artists in Residence this Summer at the Pipestone National Monument: John Knife Sterner from July 25-31 and Marlena Myles from August 23-29.

Okay, coin collectors and history enthusiasts!
We've got more "Code Talkers" coins in!!

"Code talkers" were American Indians who used their tribal languages to send secret communications on the battlefield. For example, the Navajo Code Talkers created a code based on the Navajo language that allowed them to translate three lines of English in 20 seconds.
During World War II, Native American code talkers from more than 20 tribes used their Indigenous languages to send secret, coded messages that helped U.S. forces win major battles. Their work was dangerous, especially in the Pacific, where Japanese soldiers targeted radiomen and code talkers had to keep moving while transmitting messages.
The Code Talkers Recognition Act of 2008 allows the Secretary of the Treasury to strike gold medals to honor each Native American tribe that had a member who served as a code talker during World War I or World War II. These are bronze replicas of these medals.

We now carry 8 of the different tribes, you can purchase these at either of our gift shops!
Downtown Prairie Maiden Treasures, or the Pipestone National Monument!
