Why You Hate That: PART TWO: Glass Blocks

Did you know that prior to becoming known as STEEL CITY, Pittsburgh was known as America’s GLASS CITY? Its glass factories began opening at the end of the 1700s, and by 1920 the region around Pittsburgh produced roughly 80% of all glass in the USA.

Glass Block had a pretty classy first act. It was a stylish feature in Art Deco and MCM architecture. Then came the 1980s and it became overused, especially here in Pittsburgh.

It’s functional, but not a look that works for everyone. Currently the more favorable options for privacy glass are: reeded glass, frosted glass, and leaded glass. Contact your local glass installer or window installer to see if they can replace your glass block with another option.

We’re looking for one or two Pittsburgh-area homeowners or renters with a nursery or toddler’s room that could use a touch of whimsy!
This is a complimentary mini styling project featuring one of our wallpaper borders installed in the space, along with coordinating art and decorative accents to complete the look. We’re especially interested in rooms that feel a bit unfinished or plain and would benefit from a playful transformation.

What’s included:
* Installation of one of our wallpaper borders
* A few decorative accents (art, accessories, and finishing details), to be chosen and provided by Dahlhaus Design Co.

What’s not included:
* Furniture such as cribs, changing tables, beds, or major furnishings
(These would need to already be in place or supplied by you.)

Why is it free?
In exchange, we will photograph and video the completed space to use for marketing and promotion of our wallpaper border collection across social media and other platforms.
