We are going to be using paper as a medium to conjure Islamic patterns and geometrical aesthetic objects. The classes are each going to be structured around a number and a place. The number will correspond to the pattern or shape we will focus on and the place is a historical site where a pattern with that number is located.

Istanbul Arts Tour: July 2020
Experience the Islamic Artistic Renaissance

Deen Arts Foundation in collaboration with Abu Ayyub Chronicles

Bespoke Tour Limited to 15 Guests!

Starts the last week in July 2020

Tour Highlights
(will be tailored to tour participants' previous experience)

Our goal is to provide opportunities to experience first-hand the living tradition of Islamic art by meeting with master artists, visiting art organizations, exploring historical buildings, attending live workshops, patronizing art supply shops, authentic Ottoman restaurants, tea and coffee houses, and attending sacred art exhibitions.

Istanbul is enormous, crowded and overwhelming; it has been the capital of multiple empires spanning thousands of years, and is now in the midst of a renaissance of Islamic culture.
You will save more than you will spend on this tour through efficiency and by avoiding tourist traps.
Explore the treasures of Istanbul in both Fatih (European side) and Uskudar (Asian side).
Tours of inaccessible galleries, art organizations and art supply stores with multiple translators (American and Turkish).
Bespoke tours in English with Abu Ayyub’s Chronicles. Abu Ayyub moved to Istanbul to combine his passion for history, sacred knowledge and spirituality into tours to help Muslims reclaim the narrative.
Visit Master Artists in their studios for Turkish tea and coffee.
Personal Art classes with Masters in Calligraphy, Illumination, and Paper Marbling.
Take home a couple of your own authentic masterpieces!
First class transportation.
Access to vetted specialty shopping with honest merchants.
Authentic Ottoman and regional restaurants and cafes, often unknown.
Ottoman archery.

What did Leonado daVinci, Lewis Carroll and Fredrich Froebel all have in common? Origami! From its ancient origins in Japan to its practice by the Moors (Muslims) of Northern Africa during the Middle Ages and its recent surge in popularity in the United States and around the world, origami has delighted artists, mathematicians, architects, and educators world wide. […]

Origami builds patience, perseverance and precision. It will enhance memory and retention. Paper folding reaches children’s hearts as well as their minds. As students master the art of paper folding, it instills in them a sense of satisfaction from completing a model. As students feel successful, they will transfer it to other areas of learning. 1

We are going to be using paper as a medium to conjure Islamic patterns and geometrical aesthetic objects. The classes are each going to be structured around a number and a place. The number will correspond to the pattern or shape we will focus on and the place is a historical site where a pattern with that number is located.
