Home from a trip to Massachusetts and upstate New York (and a tiny bit into Canada). We’ve come back home with a much more honed in idea for this renovation house thanks to seeing so many Cape Cod style homes that just fit the bones and vision of this project perfectly. So excited to see how it unfolds!

This renovation was a roller coaster 🎢 From flooding in the early stages, to troubleshooting design plans, the final push to the end, and now tseeing the finished product 😍 It’s been a thrill for sure.

After a long day of working on design plans for our project house, kids playing and toys strewn everywhere, school books and pencils left where lessons were finished, and meals made and eaten, it’s time to put the kids to bed and then put the house to bed.

Sometimes I don’t. Sometimes I just don’t have the energy. But when I clean up everything, put things away, and reset the house for the next day, I know that the mornings will go so much more smoothly. That I won’t start the day already feeling so overwhelmed.

It might not seem like something you’d want to do after a long exhausting day. But a new day will come with more work and toys played with and lessons learned and food cooked and eaten anyway. I call it taking care of my future self. My tomorrow-self will thank me.

Thank you 1960s architects for making everything ridiculously asymmetrical for no good reason 🙃 (exhibit A - the fireplace in our home office). But, hey nice job on the white stone.

Even when a space isn’t exactly ideal, you can still make it into something awesome. We used the white stone fireplace as the accent to the dark moody office walls and ceiling.

I’ll be hunting for the perfect rug to compliment this room and art to hang in between that pencil trim.

Whether less-than-ideal circumstances or architecture, anything viewed with a little creativity, faith, and effort can turn into something pretty cool.

A new year and finally the kitchen chairs got the facelift they had been needing. 🥳 These Facebook finds originally had a cherry wood finish and drab beige upholstered seats. A little paint, black to tie into the railing, and new upholstery and the whole dining area is finally looking finished!

Oh hey! Hi. How are you? It’s been a while since we last talked. You’re in good company with my other friends who go long periods without hearing from me too. But friends are so gracious and we always pick right up where we left off like no time had passed.

Because sometimes life is just so full. At least, that’s how my energy works. When all my energy is going to the most important things I don’t force myself to do more.

The algorithm doesn’t understand that ebb and flow, but for those of you seeing this I hope you do.

And I’m excited to welcome all of you, my friends, around to see all the new things we’ve been able to accomplish around our home.

The one remaining original cabinetry piece finally got a facelift with some beautiful paint (Black Bamboo by Behr).

To get a better flow throughout, we moved the table in front of our faux fireplace and built a second island. Painted to match the walls (Papier Blanc by Behr) and topped with a butcher block.
