Last week, we celebrated my mom’s birthday — even if the day gets focused elsewhere.
Her birthday always seems to fall during our little county fair, and this year was especially chaotic with my daughter having a packed schedule on July 31st. As much as I would've liked to make the day about Mom, it inevitably became more about my kiddo.
But if you know my mom, you know she never minds. She’s the kind of person who would always rather be celebrating her grandkids anyway — and that’s exactly why she’s known as "Mema" to them all.

I also tucked in an Ulta gift card so she could treat herself to some goodies she’d never buy for herself. She deserves it and so much more.
