Good beautiful morning! Here is the newest addition in the store. I dyed it last week and it is all washed, dried, and ready to go! Enjoy your day and be cozy my friends!

This yarn is hand dyed in the colors teal, blue and purple. My friend, Kathy, took one look at it and said that I should name it Peacock. And so I did. This is Peacock! At the zoo where I volunteer there are many peacocks who wonder the paths freely. Visitors take pictures of these stunning birds

Here is the newest yarn in the shop. It is super squishy and will knit or crochet up lovely. It will make a great looking pair of socks or a small shawl. Enjoy and be cozy.

I dip dyed this really super squishy yarn after a trip to the Misty Blueridge Mountains. We stopped at an outlook. It was a cool day and the view was stunning - blue skies with puffy white clouds could be seen, yet a misty fog still hung among the rolling mountain peaks, with lovely red cedar and

Today is February 15, and the prompt for today is colorful. This yarn, Unicorn Mane, is my most colorful yarn in the store. My husband always tells me that when given two choices, pick the more colorful one. So when I died this yarn, I chose the most colorful dyes I have. Perhaps this could be a life motto - choose color. Immerse yourself in color and be cozy.

Today is February 14 and the prompt for today is something you love that you made.

This one is an easy one. I just finished this skein of fi*****ng weight yarn. It is custom dyed that I created using the photograph in the background.

Why do I love it? It makes me think of warm weather and sunshine. I always smile when I pass a field of sunflowers and I can’t help but sing, “You are my sunshine, my only sunshine…”

So as these gray days of winter linger on I can look at this beautiful skein of yarn and smile. There are many possibilities of things to knit or crochet with it. And that means I can start looking through my patterns.

May you find something that brings sunshine and smiles to your life this Valentines Day. Be cozy.

Today is February 10 and the prompt for today is then and now. Learning to photograph my yarn has been a journey. I still have much to learn but I can see a definite improvement in these two. The white box was then and the one with a scene is now.

Both of these are available in my Etsy store,

Today is February 9th and the sun is shining. The prompt for today is work in progress.

Well, here is my work in progress. I started at 7 this morning my newest yarn based on the close up from the sunflower photo yesterday. It is now 3 hours later and I am getting closer to finishing. It has been layer after layer and I just added speckles. I might have one more yellow layer to go and then it will be time to cool and wash. Looking at it makes me happy.

And guess what? I have more yarn soaking and waiting for a different project I’m starting tonight, a special one that is for a very dear friend.

Well I almost missed the prompt for today - Close up. It has been a busy day for sure and to top it off I did something to my wrist and had to sit with ice for a bit to get the swelling to go down. The ice did the trick, but I’m still a bit sore. Today I had planned to dye this colorway but tomorrow will have to do instead.

This is a close up of a sunflower. With its beautiful yellow petals the sunflower symbolizes happiness and optimism. You may remember the expression - look on the bright side. The sunflower does this, literally, as it’s face follows the sun across the sky.

It is important to take a moment to admire the works of art that nature has provided before we continue on in our busy lives. It is those moments that rejuvenate us.

May you be like a sunflower. Turn your face to the sun and feel the warmth! Be happy, healthy and safe. Stay cozy my friends.

Good morning! Today is February 7 and the prompt for today is morning.

I love mornings. I like to ease into the day with my journal and a cup of coffee in hopefully a quiet home. That is, if my son is still sleeping. He doesn’t ease into the day; he plows into it as if his switch has been flipped from off to on.

Morning is a meditative time for me. I begin by journaling the things I’m grateful for and then the things I’m looking forward to. Next, I move on to what good habits I’m trying to form and what today’s priorities need to be. I enjoy this time to think and write.

I love sunrises and the promise they bring that today is a new day. Yesterday is done and tomorrow is not yet here, so the morning makes me remember to live in the now.

Mornings are when I take pictures of the yarn I have dyed as the light is bright but not yet harsh. I can take pictures with fewer shadows and truer colors. In fact, that is what I am about to do right now. I’ll be listing a new yarn later today that I dyed last week. It is fully dry and ready to sit in the morning light. So I hope you all stay cozy and remember to enjoy today! I’m off to take pictures now.

It’s Saturday, February 5th and the prompt for today is - I was taught by.

I was taught to crochet by my mom when I was 8. She was always making something. She used to make granny square after granny square. There was always yarn beside her chair and unlike my area it was always tidy and organized. She used a green bank bag with a zipper to keep all of her crochet hooks, needles and scissors together. And every piece of furniture had a cozy throw she had crocheted. She made blankets for Project Linus and for the local nursing home.

We would often sit and crochet together or play dominoes. These were good times and happy memories. Then mom developed cancer and I lost her 6 years ago. I tried to crochet but I couldn’t without tears streaming down my face.

I needed to learn something new and so I went to the local yarn store and signed up for a class on knitting. I was taught to knit by Brenda, the shop owner and a wonderful person. Once again I could sit with yarn in my hands. First, I knit scarves, then socks, then hats, then a sweater. Brenda became a friend and I made many others in the classes and our evening knit together. Knitting really helped me to move through a tough time in my life.

Then one day, I looked at my mother’s green bank bag. I unzipped it. I took out a blue crochet hook with signs of wear and picked up a freshly wound skein of my own hand dyed yarn and I began to crochet a cowl. The tears didn’t fall but instead a smile spread across my face and a sense of coming home filled my heart. I sure do miss my mom but I am so very blessed to have had her in my life and have the skills she taught me to crochet. Now when I crochet I am filled with good memories.

Mom didn’t like to have her picture taken but everyone once in a while we would capture her mischievous nature when she wasn’t looking. So here she is enjoying the carousel in Ocean City.

Today is February 4 and today’s prompt is an Olympic Cast On.

Of course when I saw that wording the first thing that popped into my mind was the Percy Jackson series of books and the gods of Mount Olympus. But of course that is not where my mind should have gone! Olympic, as in big, colossal, I thought. Again, what??? Where did this idea come from? And then - wait for it- when do the Olympic Games begin? I googled and yes! The Olympics begin today in Beijing, China.

You are propbably wondering how in the world I did not know this. I agree. Shame on me! But in my defense, we do not have network tv. We watch Netflix occasionally. There is no cable tv available where we live. Still, I wonder how I managed to miss that the Olympic start date was today. I guess I must have been too wrapped up in wether or not the ground hog saw his shadow. Priorities.

Well then, on this day that the Olympic Games commence, I shall cast on the first of an epic project. I ordered a new book called 400 Knitting Stitches. I plan on using up some of my very large yarn stash while working my way through the book. And just maybe, I’ll challenge myself to make a sofa throw in which each and every square is different, a sampler of knitting stitches. Let the games begin!
