Mary Fields (1832-1914) was the first African-American woman to work for the United States Postal Service.
Born into slavery in Hickman County, Kentucky, she was freed after the Emancipation Proclamation.
She moved to Toledo, Ohio, and later to Montana, where she worked as a stagecoach driver and postal carrier.
Known as "Stagecoach Mary," she was a legendary figure in Montana, known for her strength, courage, and kindness.
