Behind the Scenes on the Port Orchard Waterfront with Create It Woodworks: Why custom woodwork takes 3β6 weeks (on average)! πͺ΅ππ€
Ever wonder what goes into a Create It Woodworks piece? We start completely from scratchβno cheap pressboard/plywood, no big-box shortcuts.
Here is our step-by-step process:
* The Hunt: We hand-pick 8β10' Domestic & Exotic hard lumber straight from the yard, scanning for perfect grain and zero splits. (Pictured is Padauk, live edge Maple, Black bamboo)
* The Prep: We miter saw the lumber, glue the boards together, and plane them perfectly flat. (Unless itβs wind-chimes then I also use a bandsaw to cut the bamboo) π
* The Carve: We apply special carving tape and secure the wood to our CNC table. Then, we program and calibrate the X, Y, and Z axes specifically to your custom order design before hitting start on a multi-hour carve.
* The First Sand: We use electric sanders for part of the work, but mostly hand-sand, especially the fine details.
* The Seal: We seal the wood, let it cure for 30 minutes, and hand-sand it again to prep for the finish spray. (Note: If it's a kitchen item, sealing with food-safe oil takes up to 3β5 days depending on how long it takes the wood pores to soak up the oil!)
* The Detail Paint: We patiently apply multiple layers of paint until the color is exactly right.οΏ½* The Final Cure: We apply the finish spray and let it cure for a full 24β48 hours to ensure maximum before delivery.
Because we keep a steady queue of orders, every piece gets this exact, undivided attention. Thank you for supporting craftsmanship over convenience! π«βΊοΈβ₯οΈ
