People ask me all the time, "Blinds, shades, shutters...what's the difference?"

Blinds = slatted and adjustable (really great for light control and privacy).

Shades = a cleaner look, using a single piece of fabric (and people love the blackout, solar, cellular, and roman options they can pick).

Shutters = most durable solid panels, usually wood or composite (and yes, they cost more upfront, but they live on and on, my friends)!

The right one for you depends on your room, your light, and your budget.

Builder-grade blinds aren't doing your home any favors. We see them everywhere and we get it: they came with the house, replacing them isn't the top priority; you've got things to do.

But when you're ready? The difference is immediate.

If I had a penny (do they even make those anymore 😅?), for every home that moved on from builder-grade to Budget Blinds and LOVED the transformation, I'd have a lot of pennies!

These houses felt like completely different homes when we were done.

Day 1, I thought: how hard can blinds be?

[pause for effect]

There is a lot to know about blinds.

Fabric weights. Lift systems. Cord safety. Inside mount vs. outside mount. Roman shade pleat styles. The difference between faux wood and composite wood, which matters, I promise.

I'm still learning. And I love it, because every house is different and every homeowner has a completely different idea of what cozy means.

Rhode Island homes deserve better than the blinds that came with them.

The architecture, the light off the water, and the bay windows were basically designed to have beautiful treatments, and then someone put up vinyl miniblinds in 2003 and never looked back.

We've covered a lot of Rhody homes, especially from Newport to Warwick. It's one of our favorite parts of this territory.
