I’m back from the West Coast and ready to jump back into my little flower world. And there’s a lot going on this week!

Hard launch flower season phase 2: school is out, and I have no childcare. Send tips, tricks and coffee 🤪

Hi, I’m Lauren, the flower farmer behind Patterson’s Backyard Farm. Since the opening of the Powhatan Flower Stand, we have lots of new flower friends, so let me reintroduce myself!

This all started a few years ago as an obsession with flowers that spiraled beautifully out of control. Now it’s early mornings harvesting blooms, late nights answering messages with dirt still under my fingernails, and somehow convincing myself every season that ‘this year will definitely be less chaotic. I’ll streamline my planting plan.’ It never is. I never do (but I try).

After dabbling in growing for wedding florists (which I still do in moderation), I fell in love with growing flowers for real life: birthday bouquets, just because gestures of friendship, Mother’s Day appreciation, I saw these and thought of you flowers, and the stems people buy for themselves after a hard week. Seeing how my flowers show up in your everyday lives makes it all worth it.

When I’m not being the flower lady, you’ll find me juggling my three small children, listening to audio books, singing along to 90s music, enjoying my favorite coffee, and spending time with friends that are family.

I care a lot about growing things locally, making flowers feel approachable instead of fancy, and creating a flower stand that feels like a tiny exhale in the middle of your day.

If you’ve been here since the beginning, thanks for sticking around. And if you’re new here, welcome. I’m really glad you found my little corner of the internet. 🌸

Hi flower friends! The flowers are on vacation this week and will return on June 3rd.

Thank you for your amazing support so far this season! I’m excited to flower you again once I’m refreshed and back on the East Coast!

IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR FRESH FLOWERS, this is your week! I’ll be out of town next week on a family vacation, so the stand will be closed until I get back.

It’s not the ideal timing, because the field is absolutely exploding with color and texture, as you’ll see in this week’s bouquets, but let’s make the most of it by getting you some fresh flowers this week that’ll last *hopefully* through most of the time I’m away!

This is why HARVEST STAGE is so important! Why do some of my bouquets look like the flowers haven’t opened yet? Because they haven’t! I want your blooms to open for YOU and to last as long as possible!

Sometimes that means harvesting when they’re just barely showing petals like sunflowers, or when they’re 1/3 open like snapdragons. Then, if they open a little during their short time at the stand, that’s ok, because you know that they’re the freshest flowers you can get!

And if you’d like to try your hand at growing cut flowers, I’ll have a limited number of specialty celosia, cosmos and ZINNIA seedlings at the stand this week. Wednesday-Saturday
