Moss loves growing on calcerous rocks. This is a chunk of limestone. Moss requires very little nutrition, but it sure does love the calcium from 3 types of local Vermont rocks in particular. Limestone, Slate(schist) and Quartz. If you have any rocks like these, your terrestrial moss can benefit from it's presence.
