To the most supportive community ever — Pueblo

For 31 years, you have stood beside us, supported us, believed in us, and allowed us the privilege of serving this incredible community. Because of you, we have been able to strive every day to be the very best we could be for Pueblo, and for that, we will forever be grateful.

With very heavy hearts, we have made the difficult decision to sell our business.

This was not a decision we made lightly. After the passing of one of our owners, along with the declining health of two other owners, we knew that change was inevitable and that it was time for us to make a decision about the future of our company.

Our number one priority throughout this process was our employees — the incredible people who have given so much of themselves to this business and to this community. We truly believe we have found a company that will take care of our team, value them, and allow them to continue to be a part of what makes this place so special.

And we want you to know something very important:

Our team is staying. Our management is staying. And our commitment to serving Pueblo is staying.

We will continue to show up every day, take care of our employees, take care of our customers, and serve this community the way we have for the past 31 years.

We know change can be difficult, and we understand that you may have questions or concerns. We simply ask that you trust us in this decision, trust the people we have chosen to carry this business forward, and most importantly, continue to support the amazing team that has made this place what it is.

If this is our last year as owners, we hope we can finish it the same way we started — with the support, love, and trust of the greatest community we could have ever asked for.

Please also watch for communication regarding billing, payments, and portal information. This information will be sent to you by email and mail as we move through the transition.

Many of you may have seen the video circulating on social media today showing one of our garbage trucks dumping its load in the street.

We'd like to provide some context.

Today, one of our trucks experienced a fire inside the load. Our employees are trained to respond immediately by using the truck's compactor, onboard fire extinguisher, and calling 911. If those efforts aren't enough, dumping the load is the safest way for firefighters to extinguish the fire and prevent it from spreading. It is never the first option—it is the last resort.

We've seen comments suggesting someone pushed the wrong button or made a mistake. That is simply not the case. Our employees followed their training and safety procedures to protect themselves, the public, surrounding property, and the truck.

A huge thank you to the Pueblo Fire Department for their quick response and for staying until everything was safe and cleaned up.

This is also an important reminder to be mindful of what goes into your trash. Batteries, rechargeable devices, vapes, household chemicals, and other hazardous materials can ignite when they're crushed during collection, creating dangerous fires.

Please dispose of these items properly. A few extra moments can help protect sanitation workers, first responders, and our entire community.

It is with the heaviest hearts that we announce the passing of one of our own, Arnold Thomason Jr.

Arnold was so much more than one of our owners of A-Affordable Disposal—he was family. For more than 31 years, he dedicated his heart, knowledge, and countless hours to this company. He wasn't just one of the best mechanics around; he was a huge part of what made A-Affordable Disposal what it is today.

If you knew Arnold, you knew his daily reminder to "Check your trucks!" Those words, along with his work ethic, sense of humor, and willingness to help anyone, will stay with us forever.

His impact on our employees, customers, friends, and community is beyond measure. He helped build not only a business, but a family, and his legacy will continue through all of us.

Please keep the Thomason family, our employees, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing Arnold in your thoughts and prayers as we navigate this incredibly difficult time.

To his wife, Brenda, we want you to know that you are, and always will be, a part of the A-Affordable Disposal family. We are here for you today, tomorrow, and always.

Arnold, thank you for everything you gave to this company and to each of us. Your wisdom, friendship, and dedication will never be forgotten. You will be missed beyond words and beyond measure.

As we continue to pray for rain, it’s important to remember that one of the biggest ways wildfires spread is through wind-driven embers that can travel miles ahead of the flames and start new fires.

If you're in an area at risk and it is safe to remain, there are simple steps that can help reduce the chance of embers igniting your home or neighborhood:

• Clear dry leaves, pine needles, and other flammable debris from roofs, gutters, decks, and around your property.
• Move firewood, propane tanks, patio cushions, and other combustible materials away from your home or store them indoors if possible.
• Close windows, doors, and garage doors to help keep embers from blowing inside.
• Keep your yard and surrounding vegetation well maintained by trimming dry grasses and overgrown plants.
• Have a garden hose connected and ready to use if conditions are safe and local officials have not restricted water use.
• Always follow the guidance of emergency officials, and evacuate immediately if instructed. No home or possession is worth risking your life.

As a locally owned business, our hearts are with everyone affected by the fires. We are praying for the families and friends who have been displaced, the ranchers and farmers protecting their livelihoods, the firefighters working tirelessly on the front lines, and every neighbor facing uncertainty.
Lord, we ask for Your protection over our community. Watch over our first responders, keep our families and animals safe, strengthen those working around the clock, calm the winds, and bless our state with much-needed rain. Give hope to those who are hurting and peace to those who are weary.
At A-Affordable Disposal, we're proud to serve this community—not just in the good times, but through the difficult ones as well. We stand with our neighbors and are keeping everyone impacted in our thoughts and prayers.
