I just started a new home series called The Lost & Found and If I’m honest I almost never shared it. But spoiler alert: I already feel like it’s going to be my favorite 🥹🫶🏽
A few months ago, I opened up about how difficult it had been for me to stay proactive and how deeply hard seasons I had been walking through left me feeling crippled by the number of to-do’s needing attention in our home. Instead of being met only with understanding, I received comments and several DMs ridiculing me for it. And if I’m honest, those words stayed with me. I began looking around my home and seeing evidence of failure everywhere.
But sometimes an unfinished home is simply evidence that life has happened. There were many seasons when surviving mattered more than finishing a room. Seasons when my limited energy had to go toward my precious children, my family, my healing, and simply getting through the day. Maybe you have spaces like that too, closets you avoid, projects collecting dust and left unfinished, or corners that quietly remind you of everything you haven’t done yet. But this doesn’t make me a failure.
Instagram may show you beautiful rooms and finished reveals, but it rarely shows the tears, delays, fear, exhaustion, financial limitations, or mental battles behind them. Every beautiful clip has a story outside the frame.
The Lost & Found isn’t about proving that I finally have my home or myself together. It’s about returning to the places I’ve neglected when I didn’t have the strength to tend to them, while also choosing to meet myself with grace instead of shame.
I’m sharing the unfinished parts because I know I cannot be the only one who has ever felt buried beneath everything that needs to be done. And I refuse to let the cruelty of a few people silence the story that might help someone else feel a little less alone.
We have to stop measuring our middle against someone else’s finished reveal. Turn your eyes back toward the life, and home, and healing God has placed right in front of you. ❤️
