Hilton Head Island Airport | Terrazzo
Some projects are measured in square feet. Others are measured in years, samples, conversations, and countless details.
The new Hilton Head Island Airport is one of the latter.
After more than a decade of planning and design, the airport’s new $42 million Phase I terminal officially opened in May 2026—bringing a 27,000-square-foot terminal, expanded passenger capacity, modern amenities, and a completely reimagined arrival experience to Hilton Head Island.
For Bonitz, the scope was terrazzo—and it was anything but ordinary.
Nine custom terrazzo colors were developed for the project, requiring more than 100 samples before the final selections were approved. Because natural marble aggregates can vary from quarry to quarry and even within individual veins, every detail was inspected carefully to achieve the intended design.
Then came the artwork.
Extensive terrazzo artwork arrived in crates and was carefully assembled and molded piece by piece in the field. For everything to align as designed, the floor beneath it had to be exceptionally flat and precise.
Projects like this don’t happen without collaboration. Our partnership with Edison Foard was instrumental throughout the process, helping turn an ambitious vision into a finished space that will welcome travelers for years to come.
