Some people wonder whats the difference between designing a home & decorating a home.

The difference is intention.

Design considers how every room connects, how the home fits your lifestyle, the functionality of the spaces & the people using them, and it takes into consideration how materials, lighting, furnishings, and scale all work together.

Decorating is the final layer. Design is the foundation that makes a home feel complete.

That “finished” feeling clients want?
It rarely comes from buying more decor. It comes from having a plan that makes everything feel cohesive & comfortable.

Tell me your favorite part of the transformation of this family room in the comments.

The client came to me wanting to remodel their family room in the lower level of their home. They really liked that I could offer 3-D renderings that would help them visualize what the new room would look like. The ray trace renderings are especially cool.

They wanted to remove the wood burning fireplace & put in a gas one. With a modern, clean, & brighter look to the room. They are here in the Black Hills & wanted to make sure it still reflected the mountain feel.

The wife wanted to keep warm tones & loves the color orange. So the terra cotta tile for the wet bar worked out perfectly.
It was a beautiful compliment to the stacked stone I chose for the fireplace wall.
We opted to center the fireplace & surround it with built-ins & floating shelves. We decided to place the television on the fireplace wall instead of keeping it on a TV stand. Which really opened up the space. The built-ins & shelves provide a comfortable symmetry as well as extra storage and an enhanced place for decorative accessories.

We also added 24" x 48" porcelain tile to the walls above the built-ins to hang the floating shelves on instead of just painted dry wall. The subtle stripe lends the space interest and enhances the linear lines of the shelving. It also nicely contrasts texture of the stacked stone.

We opted for a darker walnut tone for the wood cabinetry to give high contrast to the other materials in the room.
We brought in brushed brass for the cabinet hardware & the faucet. Which hasn't been installed yet. The warmth of the brass perfectly compliments the warm tones of the stone & tile.

This family room is ready for cozy furniture & décor to complete the look. Which will allow them a comfy space to enjoy family time & movies for years to come.

Quite a few new followers recently so thought I would jump on & reintroduce myself.

I'm Lori Yusten. Owner & principal designer of Paisley Sky Interiors.
I specialize in residential interior design.

I like helping busy homeowners, either empty-nesters or with older children that are ready to create a home they've always dreamed of.

I can help with:

➡️ New furniture & décor.
➡️ Space planning.
➡️ Full remodels & material selections.
➡️ Styling your home art & décor.

Originally from Mitchell, SD. We moved to Phoenix when I was 16. I went to community college out of high school because I wasn't sure what I wanted to study.

I studied EVERYTHING!
Micro & Macro Economics
Philosophy
even Criminal Justice
and finally took a course in design and fell in love!
Transferred to ASU & got my bachelor's of science in design.

My first job out of college, I worked for a designer in Scottsdale for 9 years. We got to work with some MLB players. I had a blast. But low & behold in 2008, I found myself laid off because the housing industry took such a huge hit.

I became a sales representative for a furniture line based in AZ. I traveled all over the US. From Boston to San Diego. The experience gave me the courage to move.

I chose Dallas.
They have a strong design community. I eventually started working for a designer in Plano. I lived in Dallas for 10 years when I was presented with the idea of moving back to my home state and opening my own design studio.

Paisley Sky Interiors was born. A nod to Prince's Paisley Park, I love color, pattern & Him so it made perfect sense.
I bring my experience & exposure to a new community with hopes of making a difference & a splash.

Just over a year & a half now. Business ownership is a whole new set of hats to wear.
There are ups & downs.
Moments of excitement & fear.
Living in a new community & building a brand can be challenging.
I'm trying all the avenues & pushing ahead with the desire to bring something new & fun to the area. Challenging myself along the way.

If you are new here, I invite you to follow me and watch my journey as a new owner, in a new community, embracing life!

Welcome & Cheers! 🥂
