Today’s featured vintage vinyl is Sunshine Superman, from Donovan, released in 1966. Donovan Leitch was born in Scotland in 1946. Music was a part of his home life. Donovan emerged on the British music scene in 1965 as a folk singer. The folk revival emerged in the 1950s and soon folk and rock would merge. Donovan had success with several hit singles. Sunshine Superman had several hit singles in the U.S., including “Sunshine Superman” and “Mellow Yellow”. The album would not be released in the UK until 1967. The album helped to launch the flower power and psychedelic movements. Donovan would travel with The Beatles to India in 1968 and taught John Lennon and George Harrison guitar picking styles used on The White album. Donovan was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2012 and the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2014.
