Thank you all for being here! Let me introduce myself!
Hi, I’m Marissa. I’m a mom, wife, accountant and business owner. I was taught how to crochet when I was a young girl by my grandma. I had big hopes of crocheting when I was young but I was too busy with school, sports and boys. When I had my son, Lucas, in 2015, I started crocheting again. My best friend, Shana, showed me how to crochet again and I fell in love with it. I made beanies, wash clothes, small stuffed animals, scarves, ornaments, you name it.
In 2021, I met my now husband, William, and his son, Luke. We married in 2023 and Double L (standing for Lucas and Luke) was started. 💕
There is a large need in the local community for hats for our elementary aged kiddos in the winter time. I wanted to take my talents of crocheting and use them for good. However, to crochet a hat takes a lot of time and I knew I needed to make as many as possible. I taught myself how to machine knit - which can knit a hat in about 45 minutes - from cast on to ends weaved in - which is substantially less time than a crochet hat.
With this business name came a challenge I wanted to push myself towards. There are over 500 elementary aged kiddos in Reed City School District - Kindergarden thru Fourth Grade. Some kids don’t have warm clothes, gloves or hats to wear in the winter. I knew I couldn’t provide everything for all in need, but I wanted to try and make a difference. My goal is to make 52 hats - one each week of the year. I started my goal late - in May - but I’m determined to make my goal and then some. At least 52 kids this coming winter will have a double kitted hat from Double L Fiber Arts!
I’m so glad you are here with me and watching me grow. Sharing and adding your friends to the page not only helps me get the word out, it also puts me in possible contact with the families who might need hats for their children. Please like, follow, share and interact with the posts and together we can make a difference! ❤️
