Some pretties cooling on the edge of the kiln 😍

I’ve been hard at work prepping for the BrandywineArtfest in a couple weeks! Everything that’s coming with us has been thrown and trimmed. Now we’re working on the last steps - adding handles on pieces that need them, and the biggest step of all: glazing & firing 🔥

It may look like a shot glass/cup, but don’t let this small-but-mighty pot fool you! Over the years, our customers have bought our 2oz shot cups for a wide array of uses: Q-tip holder, air plant holder, yes, a shot glass, espresso mug, toothpicks, mouth wash swisher, or a fancy cup for the kiddos!

So many uses, one great size for so many things.

If you’ve ever wandered into The Pottery Mason Store and Studio, more likely than not you’ve probably seen yours truly spinning new pots on the wheel! My wife and I joke and call it Farm to Table Pottery, because everything in our retail store in the front is made just steps away from it in our studio, and then finished, glazed and fired with our two kilns in our back room. Lastly, things are sanded and priced and they travel about 10 steps and are hand delivered to our retail store for you to browse and find a piece to call your own!

We take so much pride in how we make our pottery, and are blessed to share it with you every step of the way!

One of our Artist’s Choice mugs - an exploration in sgraffito, a type of carving into the clay. On this mug, I was inspired by the coral and seaweed that makes life on the sea floor so vibrant 🐠

This mug is still available at our store in downtown Rehoboth! Come give it a home — we’re open all weekend!

A customer recently asked what my favorite piece in the store is, and after a little bit of hemming and hawing, I pointed out this beauty. The shape was a challenge to throw, and I love the unique way our pink Bermuda Sands glaze fired with some shiny streaking on the side. Chef’s kiss! 👩‍🍳💋

Behind the scenes at the Pottery Mason ✨ Today we opened the shop a little late so I could take care of some kiln maintenance. Luckily, this was a simple task: replacing the thermocouple. The thermocouple regulates the temperature inside the kiln, and they need replacement every so often because they deal with such high temperatures (our glaze firings go to 2,232 degrees F). Swipe ➡️ to see the old, cracked thermocouple on the left, versus the new one on the right.

This process only took about 15 minutes! We’re back up and running 🔥
