While almost everyone knows that you need to maintain your sprinkler system before cold weather hits, fewer people know that landscape lighting needs some TLC, too. Some tips to keep yours looking great through the winter:

1) Keep lenses clean and clear of snow. Use a nonabrasive cloth to clean the lenses, and clear snow from LED lights as they don't run as warm as halogens and may not be able to melt through a considerable drift.

2) Check for exposed wires. Freezing and thawing ground may push a wire up to the surface. It's best to have an experienced contractor assist.

3) Adjust your fixtures. Over time, snow shoveling and other landscape pursuits can knock fixtures out of alignment.

4) Check bulbs. Extreme temps can cause bulbs to "die" sooner. As bulbs burn out in a low-voltage system, remaining bulbs will draw more electricity, which can cause them to burn out as well. Best to replace any burned out bulbs ASAP.

5) Check for any outlet issues. Moisture can cause outlets to trip, requiring a push of the "reset" button.
