Five essential tips for decorating your home. đ
After 35 years as an interior designer, there are a few decorating rules I come back to again and again. In todayâs video, Iâm sharing five of my essential tips for creating a home that feels layered collected and uniquely yours.
1ď¸âŁ Always paint your ceiling a color.
Your ceiling is the fifth wall. Donât automatically default to a white ceiling. A thoughtful color can completely change the feeling of a room.
2ď¸âŁ Never match colors exactly.
Your paint doesnât need to perfectly match your fabric, rug or Wallpaper. In fact itâs often better when it doesnât. Look for colors that relate to one another rather than match exactly.
3ď¸âŁ Every space needs something old.
An antique, vintage piece, family heirloom, or something with a little history, gives room character and keeps it from feeling brand new and predictable.
4ď¸âŁ Create a collected room, not a suite of furniture
Skip the matching sets! Mix periods, material, shapes, finishes and styles. A great room should feel like it came together overtime. Around here, we call that living the mix.
5ď¸âŁ Always add a touch of greenery
Real or faux, a little green brings life, softness and an organic element into the room. Itâs often the finishing touch a space needs.
