If you love to dazzle, but diamonds aren’t really your thing, then allow us to introduce you to the next best thing: Bohemian garnets!

These crimson hued beauties hail from the region of Bohemia (which later became Czechoslovakia), and were all the rage in the Victorian era through the early 20th century.

Clustered together in pave settings to avoid seeing any traces of metal, Bohemian garnets were often rose or flat cut to add varying tones and rich dimension as well as to make them sparkle in any lighting situation.

This stunning piece is encrusted with hundreds of flat cut Bohemian garnets in varying sizes and is composed of a chain of cruciform links. The dramatic centerpiece of floral dangles is guaranteed to turn heads! The garnet encrusted box clasp detailing shows just how much thought and care went into creating this piece.

Necklace is set in jeweler’s brass, which is also referred to as garnet gold because of its popular use in Bohemian garnet jewelry of the era.

Calling all cat lovers!  Have you been thinking about adding another cat to your family but are worried about the mess and extra responsibility?  Well look no further!

Our cat is squeaky clean, doesn't make a sound and won't be knocking over your most beloved house plants.

This darling 1920/30s door stop is crafted out of wood and is wonderfully hand painted with the best expression! He has spellbinding glass eyes and an articulated head that allows you to position it with the perfect sassy tilt!

There is a small piece of tin on the bottom that slides under the door to keep it open.

There is a manufacturer's mark on the bottom, but sadly it has all but been lost to time.  Though we can tell that this cutie was originally from Michigan.

Who is going to give this angel a forever home??

We have a new YouTube video dropping today, September 24 at 5:00 pm EST!

We had a super fun Art Deco era jewelry appointment recently and we wanted to talk about the history, materials and approach we take to cleaning antique/vintage jewelry!

Here is a little snippet from the video where we talk about a Ostby and Barton cameo we acquired in the haul and some tragic history behind the jewelry company 💔

If you don’t already follow us on YouTube, you can follow the link in our profile to our page! You’ll find more deep dive and behind the scenes videos that we don’t post on Instagram!

Contrary to popular belief, the use of butterfly wings in jewelry did not originate in the late Victorian era as some surmise.

In fact, it wasn’t until the 1924 British Empire Exhibition when jeweler Thomas L. Mott showcased his delicate butterfly wing creations that this lepidoptera craze took flight.

Prized for its stunning metallic blue-black iridescence, the Morpho butterfly was the jeweler’s wing of choice. Native to South America, these beautiful creatures were transported to England and raised on farms for the sole purpose of jewelry production (a practice that still takes place today in a slightly more ethical sense).

One look at this stunning necklace and it is easy to see how one could get enchanted by its beauty. The way the wing shimmers in the light is almost hypnotic.

This lovely piece is fashioned in 14k yellow gold and features a tiny Pygmy butterfly resting on a shimmering blue Morpho butterfly wing on one side and a Madagascan sunset moth wing on the other. Two beautiful looks in one!

Also available is a matching 14k brooch 🦋

Join us as we lift the veil and take a longing look into the curious and usual customs of Victorian mourning culture and etiquette in our next Absinthe After Hours Event Series in our Richmond, VA storefront!

We are excited to have Victorian mourning culture historian, Emily Rose, here to share her extensive knowledge with us!

Emily will take us on a journey through the ins and outs of Victorian mourning customs -- from veiling mirrors to stopping clocks, post-mortem photography to funeral biscuits, professional mourners, hair jewelry and more!

Talk will take place Friday, Oct. 23, at 6:30 p.m. Seating is limited. Light refreshments will be served.

Tickets are on sale now!

AI IS COMING FOR YOU! We recently had an experience at an antique show where we were vending and had someone aggressively haggle with us using an AI app. We are not usually ones to complain on the internet or publicly shame customers but THIS IS TOO MUCH! 😤

What do you all think? Let us know in the comments!

You can watch the full video (where we also try this fandangled technology) on our YouTube channel, premiering tonight, Monday September 14 at 5:00 pm EST!
