Come check out our submission to the Henrico CASA "Home for Good" event at Short Pump Town Center opening today through April 26th! This year's theme was "It takes a village", so we designed a Medical Office Building playhouse. Every donation to CASA gives you a chance to win one of the playhouses!

The last of the 6 restaurants we helped renovate for the 50th anniversary of King's Dominion was Victoria's Pizza. Returning to a project we had renovated a year prior, King's Dominion reached out to add a bar inside the rear of Victoria's Pizza plus to add an outdoor rooftop seating area behind the restaurant. Analyzing the roof structure, we were able to create a relaxing and inviting space that overlooked the water park as well as provided views of their nighttime fireworks show. Cornerstone collaborated with Covington Design Group, who completed the MEP drawings, and RVA Construction, Inc., who was the general contractor.

Another of the renovations we completed as part of the 50th anniversary of King's Dominion, Cornerstone collaborated with the park to renovate their funnel cake stand to a Biergarten. The area adjacent to the building was turned into a partially covered patio with a pergola and seating area to fit into the German theme. In addition to updating the exterior and interior finishes, the kitchen equipment and plumbing fixtures were replaced as well as the casework. Shout-out to our design and construction teams who helped complete the renovation prior to the park's 2025 opening day - Covington Design Group, Blue Nest Structural, and RVA Construction, Inc.! Prost!

What started out as a straightforward adaptive re-use project of a well preserved historic building, Bedford Middle School took a bit of a downturn when a fire partially burned it down most of the way through the design process. There was severe roof damage, the cupola and windows were destroyed, and a lot of structural damage ensued. After revising the drawings to recreate the building as it once was, 59 studio, one-, and two-bedroom apartments were infilled into the classrooms, office spaces, plus the stage and auditorium area. We also added a rooftop patio overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains, and refreshed the two interior courtyards. Renamed The Flora, this project is now ready for new tenants to call it home. As part of the 50th anniversary of King's Dominion, the park wanted to celebrate the original exterior facade design of Pizza Parlor. For the 4th of 6 restaurant renovations we completed, Cornerstone provided drawings to refresh the exterior and interior finishes, update the kitchen equipment, replace the casework, rework the queue line, replace the ceiling and lights, and of course, update the exterior and interior finishes. Covington Design Group provided the MEP drawings and RVA Construction, Inc. was the GC.

Working alongside Wack GC, Cornerstone helped design a new one story building for Freedom Family Dentistry to include a dental suite plus an unoccupied shell space for a future tenant. The dental suite balanced out the space between the patient areas and staff areas, addressing the needs of all users. The design team for the project included Covington Design Group for MEP Engineering and RTB Engineering, P.C. for structural, plus coordination with the dentist’s equipment vendor.

Funnel Cake Kitchen was the third of 6 restaurants we helped renovate as part of the 50th anniversary of King's Dominion. By converting its food offerings, the interior and exterior finishes were reworked to match the new theme. The queue line was also reworked to allow for more point of sale locations. Covington Design Group collaborated with us to update the kitchen equipment and lighting, and RVA Construction, Inc. was the general contractor, helping to complete the build prior to the park’s 2025 season opening! Now we just need to go try out the new funnel cake offerings!

PROJECT UPDATE: Swansboro Place, previously shared during conceptual renderings, is taking shape on Hull Street as the project begins construction. Work on site has been progressing over the past few months, and the building will really start going vertical as work begins on framing the wall and floor assemblies. We cannot wait to see the progress over the next months Mark Turner Construction Canterbury Enterprises! The second of 6 restaurants we helped renovate for the 50th anniversary of King's Dominion was Chicken Shack. Since it’s been a crowd favorite, Chicken Shack kept its same theme but got a makeover to better fit in with the Jungle X-Pedition area of the park. Beyond the interior and exterior finishes, we also replaced the kitchen equipment, the ceilings, and the lights.

Thanks to Covington Design Group for providing the MEP drawings and to RVA Construction, Inc. for getting it completed in time for the park’s 2025 season opening!
