Threads of Freedom Patriotic Quilt

This 60” x 70” patriotic lap quilt was created by the Ridgeway Sewing Group to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary. The blocks were lovingly pieced by various members of the group coming together to honor our nation’s heritage with stars, stripes, and enduring symbols of freedom.

This quilt will be raffled off during Ridgeway's America 250 Fourth of July Celebration. You can purchase tickets from the group during the games in the Ridgeway City Park from 2 pm to 4 pm or from Paula's Sewing Corner prior to July 4. The winner will be chosen at the end of the day.

Tickets are one dollar per ticket or six tickets for five dollars.

The Ridgeway Sewing Group meets at the Ridgeway Baptist Church from 1 PM to 4 PM on the second and fourth Mondays of each month. All are welcome to come to sew -- no sewing machine or experience is needed, only a willing heart and hands. The group will meet next on July 6 with a schedule change due to Vacation Bible School.

Proceeds from the raffle will be donated to the Ridgeway Community Betterment Association.

She sews, finally. I've been working on this Elna Supermatic since November and she finally sews a nice seam, though she wants to tunnel on wide zig zags.

This is a cool machine. It comes with the original case that folds out to make an extension table. It came with two bobbins and one original cam for a three step zig zag; I 3-D printed a #3 zig zag cam for testing and will include that with the machine. It also came with its original manual which has been wonderful to have on hand! It has all the owner maintenance instruction in it! She is missing most of her original feet and the accessories box.

I also 3-D printed the drive gear. The original one was rubber and had flattened on one side due to the machine sitting for a long time without being used. The old one worked, but it was very noisy. The new one is much quieter.

This machine came from the local thrift store and I borrowed it for cleaning and intend to return it in a state that they could sell it. However, it arrived missing the power cord. I had to buy one to test the machine, but I plan to keep it to test future machines. The store has said they don't want machines back if they needed parts to be repaired, but this is an item that the purchaser could buy for themselves. The cord is $40 from either of the two sources I found -- one may be lucky to find it cheaper from eBay, but I stuck to companies I've used before.

If I take it back, I plan to include a card with the machine stating the type of needles, bobbins and feet that it uses and list the two online stores where you can buy the cord.

So, I ask you: Would you buy a machine from a thrift store even without a power cord if you knew that it worked?

** The thread in the video snapped because I was trying to back tack using the three step zig zag. User error, not machine error. Also, there is no sound because someone was really banging on her music toy about that time.

I am again accepting machines for cleaning. Basic servicing is $45 and includes cleaning, troubleshooting, oil / grease and a new needle. If I can fix any issues without additional parts, I will do so, otherwise I will call to check with you if parts are needed. I am unable to do warranty work, replace electronics or other major repairs. But I will do everything I can get your machine back to stitching properly again.

Hope to see you soon in the Sewing Corner!

I am starting work on another machine today. This lady is locked up tight-the handwheel doesn’t move at all. It’ll be fun to see if I can get her to sew again.

I will be at Spring into Homesteading education fair on Saturday with lots and lots of free stuff. I have had a lot of sewing items donated over the past year and my little shop is overflowing. So pleeease stop by and see if there is something you can use. There is fabric, patterns, notions of all kinds -- I am bringing several tubs of stuff and it's all good stuff.

The Spring into Homesteading education fair is sponsored by the Ridgeway Community Betterment Association - MO and will be open from 9 am to 3 pm in the Ridgeway school gym.

Stop by my booth tomorrow! I will also be speaking at the fair at 12:30 about saving your computer from the landfills and at 1:00 on maintaining your sewing machine.

Remember! Free fabrics, patterns and notions!
