COMPLETED | Medeco / ASSA ABLOY

We're excited to share the completed renovation of Medeco's Salem, Virginia facility, where updated employee amenities bring new life to the lobby, break room, conference room, and restrooms.

Founded in 1968, Medeco has grown from its Southwest Virginia roots into an internationally recognized name in high-security locks and hardware, now part of ASSA ABLOY.

Brass accents celebrate the materials central to the company's craftsmanship, while a large-scale historic wall graphic pays tribute to Roy Spain and Medeco's manufacturing origins.

The result is a workplace that honors the company's history while investing in the people who carry its legacy forward. CIRCLE was proud to help another Salem institution write its next chapter!

We’re honored to share that two CIRCLE-designed residences were recognized at the 2026 IDEAs Awards last Friday:

🥈 Bullington Residence (Roanoke, VA) — Silver Award
🥉 Wieland Residence (McCoy, VA) — Bronze Award

Presented by ASID Virginia and IIDA Virginia/West Virginia, the IDEAs Awards recognize outstanding interior design across Virginia and West Virginia. We’re grateful for the recognition, proud of our team, and especially thankful to the clients who trust us with their homes and allow us to do work we care deeply about.

A meaningful evening at Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden in Richmond, and an honor to have our work recognized alongside talented designers from across both states.

COMPLETED | Last summer, we announced that our Signature by CIRCLE cabinetry showroom was officially open to the public. Today, we’re proud to share the first completed kitchen to come from that new chapter, a mountaintop home in Hardy, Virginia.

For this kitchen, modern meant more than a look. It meant precision: recon oak cabinetry with continuous grain, high gloss lift up uppers, integrated Miele appliances, flush 22 System outlets, concealed power beneath an uninterrupted slab backsplash, and lighting integrated above and below the cabinetry.

That’s the CIRCLE difference. Our cabinetry isn’t designed from a catalog outward, but from the architecture inward. With licensed designers guiding the process, every decision, from proportion and material transitions to lighting and appliance integration, is considered as part of the whole.

Simple design is rarely simple to build.

FEATURED | The Roanoker Magazine

An established South Roanoke home reimagined with a distinctly modern intervention.

The addition created a new connection to the outdoors with a covered living space, custom entry canopy and cable railing by Lift Arc Studios LLC. Inside, the clients’ art, wallcoverings and fearless use of color make the home unmistakably their own.

NOW GROWING | New Hope Roanoke

This month marks an important milestone for the "church by the quarry." New Hope is offering preschool this fall, and CIRCLE is helping prepare for that growth with a second phase of design focused on converting portions of the building to educational occupancy.

When we designed the worship center, children’s ministry and classrooms were an important part of the vision. It’s rewarding to see that forward-thinking design now supporting the church’s continued growth.

From the stone-filled gabions inspired by its quarry setting to spaces designed to evolve with its congregation, New Hope was designed with the future in mind. Livable Modern looks forward, evolves with the people it serves, and makes room for the next generation.

NOW BIDDING | South Roanoke

For this South Roanoke residence, unconventional structural framing allowed us to create a paper-thin wraparound roof, a distinctly modern intervention that slips around the existing home while creating an entirely new way to live outdoors.

In the rear yard, the payoff is a new outdoor entertaining space designed around an outdoor kitchen, bar, pizza oven, wood-burning chiminea, and hot tub — all organized as an extension of the home rather than an add-on.

Because Livable Modern isn’t only for indoor spaces.

As we close out our MODERN × SWVA series, this project in McCoy, Virginia generated more excitement than any other we shared. Maybe that's because it takes something familiar and looks at it differently.

This modern interpretation of a log cabin pairs the warmth and character of traditional log construction with unexpected details inside. A two story bookcase anchors the living space, illuminated floating stairs add a little drama, glass railings preserve the views, and a copper soaking tub is tucked beneath a dormer overlooking the landscape.

It's exactly what we mean by Livable Modern. Respect what makes a place special, then imagine what it could become.

You can now listen to Theresa's interview on Naturally Curious from WVTF Music and RADIO IQ, Virginia's NPR member network:

"Host Bruce C. Bryan sits down with designer and artist Theresa Dorlini, co-founder of CIRCLE Design Studio and Dorlini Modern. Dorlini reflects on her firm's holistic 'full circle' approach to design, bridging the gaps between architecture, interior design, and construction. She shares insights from her 20-year career, including navigating industry shifts like the rise of 'resimercial' spaces, asking intimate programming questions to tailor custom environments, and using a recent sabbatical to focus on classic modern furniture design and American manufacturing. The conversation also covers her creative influences - ranging from 1980s pop culture to biological structures and why true creativity relies on collaboration, openness, and human vision over automated tools."

A home can be modern without feeling cold.

For this residence in South Roanoke, the architecture creates a quiet backdrop for the things that give the home character. Natural materials, a courtyard centered around a sculptural bonsai, and the clients' collection of African primitives bring warmth, texture, and history to clean modern spaces.

The result is a home that feels collected rather than decorated, and modern without sacrificing soul.

That's Livable Modern.

COMPLETED | Renovation in East Hampton, NY

CIRCLE Design Studio recently had the privilege of reimagining the interiors of this East Hampton residence, originally designed by Harry Bates of the legendary Hamptons firm Bates Masi Architects.

Working alongside architect Peter Cho, AIA, we brought a fresh interior perspective to the renovation—layering furnishings, materials and relaxed sophistication into an architecturally significant modern home. Set on nearly two private acres in Northwest Woods, the home pairs quintessential Hamptons living with a rare amenity for the area: a private heated gunite pool.

Now complete, the fully furnished residence has entered the Hamptons luxury rental market—and is currently offered at $60,000 through Labor Day.

It was an honor to help reimagine a Harry Bates-designed home for its next chapter. Explore the finished residence:
