Here are two hearth tile sets we created for the Mark Twain Memorial in Hartford Connecticut.

What is most special for me was that the pink fireplace was installed by me (Donald Shore) and a colleague (Mark Moffatt)... We were literally locked into the former residence of Samuel Clemens.

Did we take a break to smoke ci**rs in his library with our feet up on the fender of the fireplace (blue tile below)... ? I will admit that we both enjoy an occasional cuban and a snifter of brandy... and leave it at that... "Do your duty today and repent tomorrow."

Lesperance Tile Works’ founder Linda Ellett… working at the press her Dad made for her following an apprenticeship she completed at the Moravian pottery and tile works. Some will be interested to know that the clay she is pressing was a clay body that was dug by tile makers from the banks of the Hudson River.

Special “green man” designs by lesperance.. inspired by the monastic tile makers of the british middle ages…(timeline backwards)… and the saratoga filmmakers Spencer Sherry and Ryan Jenkens…(timeline forward forward). Ryan and Spencer spent some time in our studio making a short film that (I am told) has a spirit from the woods who maybe akin to this fellow. The design was one we found in a pavement while on research of a peculiar type of tile made by medieval craftsman… who’s work would evolve to birth an industry of ceramic pavements still on use today in capitol buildings around the country. We are in active production today maybe without the same hats as the medieval craftspeople, but the craft is in our house….
