Specializing in interior architecture and design with distinct attention to every detail, Hammer and Schmidt

is dedicated to finding design solutions beyond the expected for both residential and commercial projects. Staging is also a growing area of business, creating environments for single and multi residential projects that let potential buyers or renters to see themselves at home. Each unique interior creates visual excitement through an in-depth study of how the floor plan flows from space to space enriched with the seductiveness of finishes and materials. The culmination of these factors evokes serenity, sophistication, style and comfort reflecting the individual personalities of the client. Each project begins first with a study of the possibilities within the floor plan discovering ways to sculpt and transform it, uncovering it’s hidden potentials. The next phase is the physical manifestation of the clients’ wants and desires through the newfound spaces. Many of the images in the galleries include custom designed furniture pieces, built ins, handrails, doors, custom entry pulls and many other details all of which were designed exclusively for Hammer and Schmidt clients and fabricated by specialized craftsmen. Since 1993, Peg Hammerschmidt has been working with clients to create their dreams and desires through extensive design knowledge, education, principles and most of all the joy of creating. This is a case study on converting a mid century modern house in Ladue, MO that lost it's way over the years. This house had been on the market for quite sometime with very few viewings. I went in to see what the issue could be and was immediately struck that it was lost to an interior that was trying to be traditional with the bones of a modern house. There was a major disconnection and a vast amount of visual confusion. The interior was not inviting in anyway. I am not saying that you cannot do a contemporary interior in a traditional home, because you can but, there is very distinct and detailed way to do achieve this which takes a honed and discerning professional to do. Here are some before photos and after rendering views into the main areas of this study.

Here are a few construction photos for my other UK project. It is an addition to the home I did in 2001. The stairs are going to be amazing. I designed a very detailed functional art piece for the inside handrail that continues it curve up and onto the top landing and again curving beyond the bottom step to complete the sculpture. The outer rail will be of minimalist glass with no visible supports and will have a low profile wood top rail. The treads will be thick wood with open raisers. My client wanted something out of the ordinary and that is what he is going to get...Completing the visual drama will be a chandelier with a cascade of 16 hand blown glass pendants by John Pomp Studios here in the US. I am so excited to see it all done and my design and vision realized.

The last photo is of the new orangery, we would call it a sunroom or 4 seasons room, with floor to ceiling glass it will be light and airy, overlooking a beautiful lush garden. It has full opening and stacking doors with no center support creating and wide expansive opening that connects to the new massive deck for the perfect indoor outdoor entertaining experience.

Master suite, this was a fun challenge. This top level is carved out of the roof with exposed A frame structural elements. The challenge was to covert a very strange layout for the existing bathroom getting rid of a unwanted tub and to create a large shower. The rest of the room was to find ways to get the maximum amount of storage possible, while still have a king size bed.
