Some local businesses sell you a product. Others give you a place to learn, create, connect and belong. the yarn and the tale does a little bit of all of that.

Located at 123 Broadway Street in Downtown Rock Springs, the yarn and the tale is a local yarn shop filled with color, texture and possibilities for knitters, crocheters, spinners, weavers and felters. Inside you’ll find a wide selection of yarns and fibers, along with the tools and accessories needed to turn that next skein into something special.

The yarn and the tale has also become a gathering place for our local fiber arts community, offering classes and workshops where beginners can learn something new and experienced makers can add another skill to their repertoire. Classes continue throughout the year, with recent offerings ranging from beginner-friendly crochet projects to multi-week knitting classes.

And their reach goes beyond Rock Springs. The shop is one of the stops on Wyoming’s Cowboy Yarn Crawl, connecting our Downtown with yarn shops and fiber destinations across the state—and giving fiber enthusiasts another reason to make Rock Springs part of their travels.

That sense of community is exactly what Rooted in Rock Springs is about. A locally owned shop can be more than somewhere to buy supplies. In keeping with introducing more natural fibers to our inventory, meet Skadi (skahdee).
Spun from this rare breed of sheep, Merino d'Arles are native to France, and are the softest breed in Europe. These sheep produce fleece with high crimp, creating natural pockets of air which provide warmth and insulation. The resulting yarn is incredibly fluffy, bouncy, and soft.

We currently have sweater quantities in nine colors, with the other seven colors expected in December. Yes, you do want a sweater made from Skadi.
