We had ‘frostmas’ recently, when we got our first frost here in Rockford, MI (zone 5b/6a), which triggers A LOT of tasks to be done in the garden to prepare for winter.

Alas, we’re here, still making beautiful things with flowers 🖤 This was an arrangement for my neighbor’s funeral, who passed recently. I tried to make it feel full of life, while also giving autumn feels 🍂🧡

Note to self; need to add a rotation of something blue for this time of year. Any growers out there have any suggestions for blue flowers in early-mid October?

No matter how many times I do this, I’m still amazed that these tiny seedlings will be spilling over with blooms in spring 🥹

Here in Michigan, our zone is 5b/6a with less than 5 months of growing season, so it’s important to extend that growing period with cold hardy crops that can take our Michigan winters. They’ll appear dormant on the surface, but under the soil they will be laying down their roots and be ready to take off at the first sign of spring 💚

So far I’ve planted delphinium, cress, campanula, snapdragons, poppies, soapwort, forget me not, rudbeckia, foxglove, orlaya, & feverfew. Some of these are experiments, so we’ll see whose tough enough to make it to spring 💪🏻

This was a mock bouquet, using leftover blooms from the shop that were past their retail shelf life. I really wasn’t a fan of the color selection I had, but honestly I’m kind of digging it 🤔

Bridal bouquet for Emily ;

Dahlia ‘Labyrinth’ is the star in this moody autumn bouquet, supported by various deep red dahlias, cosmos, and chrysanthemums, with a pop of light apricot dahlias & cherry branches, contrasted by deep purple smokebush & black tomatoes, with an airy cascade of bridal veil, and accented with pearls of opar & eucalyptus for texture and shimmer 🍂

Another nasturtium post; the most darling lily pads 🐸

We mostly use them for bug & pest control in our garden, but they make such a whimsical & delicate touch to arrangements. We adore the lily pads 💚
