This has been a rough month for me and considering it’s DV awareness month, I figured, I would shed some light on what’s going on in my world.
I’m currently in a place where I feel like I need to prove that all of the horrendous things that happened to us, actually happened. I’ve been obsessing over it. Thinking to myself, there has to be SOMETHING to show.
If anything for my own peace of mind.
I remember every incident like it was yesterday. I remember the weather, the smells, what he was wearing, what my son was wearing and what was on the tv.
Because in today’s age, the victim has to prove that they are indeed a victim. The victim has to relive the worst days of their lives just prove it happened. Meanwhile the abuser, sits there with a smug look on their face while everyone says how good of a person they are.
But the victim knows.
The victim knows that everything that was said by the abuser to them was said verbally as to carefully not have anything recorded in text. The victim knows that things are said to the outside world by the abuser to give a certain façade to the situation so the victim looks crazy. All of a sudden the victim is the accused, and is then questioned and interrogated.
Records get quietly deleted, reports altered, and evidence destroyed. All for protecting the abuser because “he would never”.
When are we going to hold military personnel accountable instead of covering up their abusive nature?
When are we going to start listening to victims? When are we going to start taking the interests of the child seriously instead of what is “his right”?
If they have abused animals, and/or their spouses, they will abuse their children too.
