A repost… looks like I had the sniffles a year or two ago on this day… lol.
I was showing this Old School “Moth Proofed” tag sewn onto this killim. Not sure what their treatment was back then… but it seems to have expired.
The only “Moth Proofing” I know of today is using magnesium salt ( which is very poisonous in liquid form… probably in powder form as well). I have experimented with it one one particular customer’s rugs… who house was completely inundated with moth, and what I found was they still tried to eat… then they stopped. So I’m not convinced it is a “Proofing”.
Anyone else out there have success with moth proofing?
I can kill them and the eggs(the gift that keeps giving)… but I haven’t seen or heard of anything that repels them.

A old Sparta, 11.10 x 21.1. This guy used to be on the floor of our showroom at 6930 Wisconsin Ave in Chevy Chase from the early 1970’s through 1991… it was a real trooper! If this rug could only talk!
Now she’s tired, a little worn, a little moth eaten… kind of amazing it still has fringe.
It even got staged in someone’s home for a magazine shoot… this rug has seen it all!

Here is a Very Large carpet. This is a turn of the century Agra. It was even bigger! I took this in on trade from a Estate on the Eastern Shore maybe 20 years ago. Just sold it to a dealer…

Uncle John Mark Keshishian, Md.
for his 90th birthday, his youngest daughter, Alicia Keshishian (AK Rugs) made him this rug. It’s a cover of his last book… made in Nepal, with no child labor. The white background is white un dyed wool… the red is silk. They won an award for the book cover design.
You can still find copies of the book on Amazon… allong with his older books.
Uncle John was an American Hero from early on. He had a football scholarship to Bucknell, after Pearl Harbor, the entire team and coaches went and enlisted! After the war. He went to medical school…. The book starts out in 1959… can’t tell you everything… he obviously couldn’t tell us everything… so he had to embellish some stories… and it had to be published as Fiction… I guess that’s how you get around some stuff?

The rug went to my cousin’s home down in the Carolina’s her husband got a new Command. But it’s a good looking rug made in turkey ( and we won’t hold that against them ;-)
With its neutral color scheme, you could put this in any room… Clissical early American/European, contemporary/Mid century modern…

A PSA repost!
Carpet Beetle and or Moth infestation. Here is a customer’s rug that has been rated by Carpet Beetles. The Beetles are sneakier than Moths. They are also cleaner and neater and don’t make the big mess that Moths make. But they do damage your rugs… and you don’t have a problem, till you have the problem. Killing them is much simpler once they hatch (for both beetles and moths) the Eggs are hard to kill and as I always say “They are the gift that keeps giving”.
Right now extreme temperature kills the eggs. We freeze them…. First brush, vacuum and wash, then freeze… the longer the better… 2 weeks is usually good.
We can take care of the moths/beetles in your rugs… but you have to take care of them in your home.
