We talk a lot about how Dusty Heirlooms come to find me—the collections, estates, downsizing, and sometimes difficult circumstances that bring these beautiful old things into my hands. But there’s another part of the story I haven’t shared nearly enough: how these heirlooms find their next home.
A while back, I acquired a beautiful Murano glass angel from the collection of someone who had passed away. His family decided this particular piece wasn’t something they wanted to keep, so it became one of those dusty heirlooms waiting for its next chapter. Last week, this beautiful blue angel found that chapter.
A woman named Jill chose the angel because it held a very personal meaning for her. Years ago, she and her husband lost a young daughter. They had built a beautiful family through adoption, and although the loss was one of the most difficult experiences of their lives, their daughter remains deeply loved and remembered. Jill told me that she wanted the angel as a symbol of that remembrance—a little guardian angel with a name and a story of her own.
And I couldn't help but think about the journey this little piece of Murano glass had taken. From one collector, whose family could no longer give it a home… to Dusty Heirlooms… and now to someone who will treasure it for reasons far beyond its beauty or value.
This is the part of the business I don't always get to talk about.
— Sometimes an heirloom isn't simply being sold.
— Sometimes, it's finding the person who was meant to have it next.
And perhaps that's what Heirlooms Are Rediscovered When the Dust Settles really means. ❤️
