Built for a whaling captain generations ago, this Sag Harbor home still carries the bones of its history: wide-plank floors, deep-set windows, a staircase worn smooth by two centuries of hands.

When you design a home with history, the most important job is to work with what exists. We kept the palette quiet; chalky whites, soft linen, the occasional note of black to ground. Marble finds its way in with restraint, and more contemporary elements like lighting bring balance and a sense of freshness.
