2 From baseball history today. Willie Mays born 1931 in Westfield , Alabama. Babe Ruth hits his first of 714 regular season home runs while playing for the Boston Red Sox in 1915. Argument to be made that these two could be #1 and #2 in Greatest position players of all time. Ruth probably gets the nod because in his first 5 plus seasons he was an excellent pitcher. Another happening on this day in 1915 was the birth of Orson Welles in Kenosha, WI. In 1941 at the age of 26 Welles directed, produced, co-wrote, and starred in perhaps the finest movie of them all, "Citizen Kane". Can't live up to those giants, but I do a decent job of repairing and servicing sewing machines. Open for business today Noon till 5:30 and Saturday 10 to 3.

Today I salute Country Music Great Merle Haggard. Gifted Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist/Fiddler. Merle was both born [1937] and died [2016] on this day. So many good songs over the course of his lifetime. Listen to "Sing Me Back Home"
and try not to cry. On You Tube I found a version of said song by Keith Richards that is even more poignant. Regret that I never saw him live in concert. Here is a fun one everybody happy with -----On this day in 1913 the 16th Amendment to the US Constitution went into effect. This is the Amendment which permits a Federal Income tax and makes the Month of April more fun. On a better note, we can celebrate the birthdays of French Painter Pierre - Auguste Renoir [1841], Italian opera singer Enrico Caruso [1873], and Beatle George Harrison [1943]. On this day in 1977 Fleetwood Mac released a nice little record album named "Rumours". Almost 50 years old and over 40 million units sold. The songs are still in constant radio rotation. On This day in 1967 Green Bay defeated Kansas City 35 to 10 to win the first Super Bowl. Also on this day in 1919 "The Great Molasses Flood" hits Boston killing 21, injuring 150, and causing extensive dammage. Read up on that event if you never have heard of. No Super Bowls or floods here, we already have plenty to deal with as it is. Gratz Sewing with be open this Saturday from 10 to 3PM for your repair/service/parts needs.
