ALERT ‼️ LONG POST!
INTERIOR ARCHITECT DESIGN 🕌 AND CONSTRUCTION 🦺
As a Interior Architect Designer working at a construction company as a Project Engineer, I was not certain how this was going to work. The two career paths are very different, however I’m seeing how Interior Design strengthens Construction.
Please understand Interior Design is not all fluff and making spaces look pretty. As an Interior Designer you must know function, flow and finish.
Designing with intent and vision should define how a space should feel and function.
In addition, designers have to specify materials, fixtures and finishes that meet both aesthetic and performance requirements. Researching durability, maintenance, sustainability and budget.
This helps with construction by preventing material conflicts, supports accurate procurement and maintain consistency through charge orders. The list goes on that includes space planning, code compliance, coordination with trades and more.
On my journey to obtain my BA in Interior Architect Design in addition to on the job training as a Project Engineer, it is my goal to bring some clarity that helps everyone- architects, contractors and clients align on a shared vision that can reduce confusion and rework.
What a JOURNEY!!! I have a ways to go but so far…. I DIG the GIG. This is a dream that I clearly didn’t imagine on this spectrum.
But guess what?! 🙃 To be continued…..
