Lovely Lark Living Rebuilding and lifting our home after Hurricane Helene 🌀 Sept 2024

03/14/2026

THIS HAS BEEN THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER.

We’ve been left in the dark, lied to, and kept in a financially stressful situation for 18 months. WTF

*Note: Our GC overall has been great. The lift company is a nightmare.

530 days since the hurricane.

57 days since the last day they worked on our project.

9 days since we threatened to lawyer up.

And the lifting equipment finally made it to our property.

I thought this would be a moment of excitement but instead I still doubt the follow through and am so beyond disappointed in this entire experience that I can’t muster hope let alone joy.

Hypothetically we should be lifting to fill height tomorrow. 🤞 Feel free to place your bets…

Things could be worse, but this s**t has been hard and I’m ready to be done.

We met with our project manager from the lifting company yesterday and finally got some tentative timelines for our project. Unfortunately, everything about this process has been longer than anticipated so we’re not holding our breath for any of this.

- with the current supplies and where we are on the project list, he expects that our house would be lifted to full height within 2 to 3 weeks from now

- once we’re at full height, there is still a lot of steps that remain for the lifting company and his best guess at this point is that we’re looking at two months from now before the project is finished by the lift company.

- our contractor is currently getting drywall up on the interior and finishing the mason rework for the converted garage window windows

- our contractor is estimating that by the end of next week drywall and window install* installation should be finished

*we’ve been told to expect window install numerous times already so 😏

- our contractor team will be able to work on hanging doors, finishing drywall, adding floors and tile work, etc. once the house is at full height, and no longer at risk of being damaged by the lift.

- our contractor’s team will be able to work throughout this process, except for when the lift company is on site. (There’s a lot of waiting for concrete to cure and things like so work will continue while we wait for the lift to finalize.)

- a big step in the process that also needs to happen is building the front and back deck so that the property can still be accessed once lifted. I have no idea what the timeline on that is expected to be.

All in all, our current hope is that maybe we’ll be home sometime in May.

We are weary and ready to be home.

Baby’s first insulation. 😂

Our house has all always been a bit of a pain even before the flood. One issue we had was trying to keep the property cool in the summers.

Before we flooded, we had put in new ductwork, added insulation to the attic, got a new AC unit… and it’s still struggled to keep cool in our main living space. So it came as no surprise when everything got ripped out that we never had insulation on the exterior block walls.

We may still be forever away from moving home, but at least there is now proper insulation and we might stay cooler in the summers. 🤞🤞🤞

482 Days since 🌀 Home Update:

- Mechanical & Plumbing first rough passed inspection
- Electrical inspection on Thursday
- Footer concrete needed to cure for 2 weeks before lift can continue
- Kitchen design finalized
- Kid’s bathroom hard finishes decided
- Primary bathroom hard finishes mostly decided

Electrical inspection ➡️ Drywall install

1/26 is when concrete will be ready so 🤞 the lift will continue asap but who the hell knows cause they tell us nothing 🫠

I need to pick a flooring. The hubby and I say “I just want to be home” daily at this point.

Let’s rewind a bit and talk about how we got here.

Flooded 9/26/24
Permit Received 10/13/25
Lift Digging Started 11/28/25
House off the ground 12/11/25

11/29/2025

Excavation for the lift has officially begun! 🙌

Now, let’s not get too excited because they warned us that it can be a few month process as the teams bounce back and forth between projects… and we have no info on what to expect next…

BUT SOMETHING HAS HAPPENED. There has been progress. And that feels a bit like hope.
