Earlier last night , our house caught fire. Thankfully, all five of us, along with our two dogs, made it out safely. The fire department responded quickly and we are beyond grateful for their tireless efforts over the course of several hours to save our home. I can’t thank them enough, especially the brave crew who went back inside to retrieve our boys’ cochlear implant device chargers. Without their selflessness, our boys wouldn’t have access to sound today.
Some of our dear friends and neighbors stood with us in the cold rain, offering blankets, rain jackets, and prayers. So many others have reached out, offering help. They’ve gathered essentials for us, found us a place to stay for the night, and showered us with love and support for our boys.
It’s deeply humbling to see everything we’ve worked for damaged or ruined, and to realize that all we have right now are the clothes on our backs. We know none of our material possessions matter, what truly matters is that we are safe.
This home meant so much to me — anyone who knows me saw my face light up when I talked about it. It brought me so much comfort to be with my family there. But today, we’ve witnessed the incredible strength of our community, and our boys have already recognized and expressed their gratitude for this network of love and friendship.
We are blessed beyond words, and we will get through this together.
