You don't always have to pick just one.

Stock cabinets do a great job on straight, simple runs where the standard widths line up. Semi-custom earns its cost in the spots that are hardest to get right: the corner next to the fridge, a narrow pantry wall, a sink base that has to clear the plumbing. Before you price the whole kitchen one way, ask which runs actually need the extra sizes.

Getting three quotes is smart. Getting three quotes for three different jobs is where folks get stuck.

Here's a trick that helps. Before anyone comes out, write down exactly what you want done, room by room. Hand every remodeler that same list. Now the numbers that come back are all answering the same question.

And if a quote leaves you with more questions than answers, ask them. A good remodeler won't mind walking you through every line.

Ever grab a drawer and your fingers slide right off the k**b?

Hardware size is one of those small choices you feel every single day. A tiny k**b on a wide drawer is hard to grip and looks lost on the front. Go too big and a long bar starts catching pockets and crowding the cabinet. The rule of thumb we use is about a third of the drawer width, so a 36 inch drawer gets a 12 inch pull and a 24 inch drawer gets something close to 8 inches. Narrow drawers are fine with a k**b.

Ever finish washing up and feel it in your lower back?

It might be your vanity, not your back. For years, 30 inches was the standard vanity height, and for most grown-ups that means bending over the sink every single morning. Comfort height vanities sit at 36 inches, the same as a kitchen counter, so you can stand tall while you rinse. In the bathrooms we remodel around Salisbury, that's the height we recommend most for main and primary baths.

Two exceptions worth knowing. A kids' bath still works great at 30 to 32 inches. And if you love the look of a vessel sink, the bowl adds about 6 inches on top, so pair it with a 30 inch vanity and the rim lands right around 36.

White cabinets just got knocked out of the top spot.

In 2026, 29% of homeowners chose wood cabinets over white, a six-point jump from last year, and white slid down to the second spot. Around here, we're seeing warm wood tones show up in kitchen after kitchen: honey oak, warm-beige browns, walnut-inspired finishes. It's not just a color shift either. Wood shows natural grain and character that paint can't replicate, so no two kitchens end up looking exactly the same after years of everyone choosing the same white kitchen.
