Heritage Square, designed by Babcock Design for alquist and Pacific Companies, reimagines the site next to Meridian City Hall as a true downtown destination: 120,000 SF of office, up to 80,000 SF of retail and restaurants, and a public plaza with fountains, art, and interactive spaces that nod to Meridian’s historical roots.

The kind of place people and families want to spend an evening.

Groundbreaking is expected by early next year.

Main Street Station is the downtown terminus station for multiple bus routes and is largely below ground level. This includes portions of the bus circulation that are actually under Main Street and the Grove Plaza. There are eight bus bays at an angle so that buses can enter and depart without having to wait for other buses to leave. The Main Street Station has two flights of 19 steps going straight to the buses. Along each side of the staircases are bike troughs to roll bikes up and down the staircase. Bikes are also welcome in the elevator.

The $11.1 million, 54,046-square-foot bus terminal comes with plenty of artistic touches, whether in practical signage or for purely artistic reasons. Four doors lead out to the bus bays. Riders may never notice, but each door has an outdoor theme assigned to it: foothills, mountains, high desert and rivers. Large artistic floor medallions by a local artist at each door visually depict each of the above scenes. Overhead bus route signage bears corresponding butterfly, deer, hawk and fish symbols. A “Keep People Moving” collage of broken transportation toys greets riders as they go down the stairs, along with a cut tile and mosaic tile mural along the staircase called “In Our Own Back Yard.”

Designed as a multi-specialty medical clinic with urgent care and ER for St. Lukes; a major healthcare provider in the greater Boise area, this 90,000 sf. facility is the center-piece of a 35 acre site master-planned by Babcock Design. The site, adjacent to a major retail center and I-84, has a plaza of in-line retail shops that frame the medical facility. A cluster of medical buildings to the north of the clinic are connected by a plaza and trellises creating a medical center campus. These buildings will provide out-patient treatments, dental and other medical services. The brick and stucco building design, similar to other St. Luke’s medical facilities around the Treasure Valley/Greater Boise area, reinforces their identity as the premium healthcare provider.

As Clif Bar’s first completely owned and operated baking facility, this 267,000 sf organic factory employs 250 people and was completed fall of 2016. The state-of-the-art plant uses biophilic design, an integrative approach to architecture while expressing Clif Bar’s dedication to sustainable values with its Five Aspirations of sustaining the people, community, business, brand, and planet. The design team was tasked with developing an innovative building that redefines the nature of food manufacturing facilities and sets a new precedent for other factories to follow. Successful in our goal, the plant was awarded the ‘Sustainable Plant of the Year Award’.

The design features recycled and reclaimed materials from local sources and emphasizes the use of natural light and access to views of the surrounding countryside. Working with the owners and staff we learned how each of the spaces was used and provided appropriate furnishings for function while thinking outside the box on how to achieve the result. Instead of creating a place where people ‘have to work,’ we created an environment where people ‘wanted to be.’
