Private and group instruction is available for many facets of jewelry making. We are excited to offer jewelry-making classes for all ages and abilities in Salt Lake City, Utah. Our classes cover various aspects of jewelry making, such as metalsmithing (silversmithing), casting, cold connections, PMC, enameling, lapidary, and more. We provide group and private instruction, as well as different types of classes, including weeknight and full-day workshops, virtual and week-long classes, and specialized techniques from visiting instructors. We make it easy to book your classes on our website, so you can start your jewelry-making journey today. We can't wait to meet you in class! Casting week, and there are two ways in. 🔥

Lost Wax Casting runs Monday to Wednesday, October 19-21, 10am to 3pm. You attend all three days and the booking page shows the start date only. Carve your design in wax, invest it in plaster, burn the wax out, pour the metal into the space it left. Cracking that flask open is the best moment in the craft.

Already carve your own waxes? Ready to Cast runs Tuesday and Wednesday, October 20-21, 10am to 1pm. That one is studio access and professional equipment for waxes you bring finished and casting-ready. No demos, no instruction, and you'll need a casting class and some spruing experience behind you.

There's a version of this craft where you compare your third ring to somebody's fifteenth year and decide you started too late. That version is a waste of a perfectly good Saturday.

The only useful comparison is to the piece you made before this one. That's it. That's the whole measurement.

You've cut a few lines. Now go deeper. ✏️

Next Level Hand Engraving runs Friday through Sunday, October 16-18, 10am to 3pm each day. You attend all three days, and the booking page shows the start date only.

Three full days is what engraving actually wants. The first day your hand is still arguing with the graver. By the third it has stopped, and that's when the work starts looking like the work you had in your head.

This one is for people who've already done some engraving and want to push past clean straight cuts into something with real depth and control.

The second half of a home studio. 🔥

People usually get the hand tools sorted first. Pliers, files, a saw, something to measure with. Then they want to solder at home and realise that's a whole different shopping list.

Our Jewelry Soldering Kit is that list, assembled. A torch, a heat-proof surface, something to hold the work, and the bits that make a joint actually flow. It comes with a choice of soldering board sizes depending on how much bench you've got.

22, 24 or 26 gauge? It depends on what the edge is going to do. 📏

Sheet gauge confuses everybody at the start, and the numbers run backwards, which does not help. Higher number means thinner metal.

Here's the shortcut we give students. If your metal is going to stick out past the bezel where people can see and touch it, go 22. It's thick and strong and the edge reads as deliberate. If you're trimming the metal back flush around the stone, 26 is plenty and much less work to cut. And 24 splits the difference, with one catch: that edge comes out sharp, so you'll be filing it.

That's the whole decision, and it saves you a lot of regret two hours in.

Cut the stone. Build the setting. Same afternoon. 💎

Combo Class runs Monday, October 12 and Thursday, October 15, both 3-7pm. You start on the lapidary side and grind a rough stone into a finished cabochon, then move to the bench and build the silver that holds that exact stone.

Most people learn these two crafts years apart, which means a long stretch of designing around whatever stones somebody else cut. Doing both in one sitting changes how you think about a piece.

Four days, same bench, same people, starting this morning. 🔥

4 Day Metalsmithing kicked off today and runs through Thursday, 10am to 3pm each day. There's something different about a class that comes back tomorrow. Nobody is rushing to finish, and by day three the techniques have stopped being instructions and started being habits.

Intro to Lapidary runs tonight too, so there'll be stone dust and silver filings in the same building by about 6pm.

The piece nobody sees is the one that taught you the most. ✨

Every maker has a drawer. Half-finished things, wrong-sized things, the ring with the seam you could never quite close. None of it gets photographed. All of it is why the good ones came out good.

Next Level Metalsmithing is running today, and this is the class where people surprise themselves. 🔥

It's the one you take after the intro, after a few pieces, at the point where you've stopped copying a demo and started having opinions about what you want to make.

That shift is the best thing to watch in this whole job. Somebody stops asking is this right and starts asking what if I did it this way instead.

Seven hours, and everybody leaves with something they actually designed.

A bezel forgives you. Prongs absolutely do not. 💎

That's the fun of it. Four or six tiny arms holding a stone up to the light, nowhere to hide a wobble. And when it finally locks in and stops moving, people make a specific noise. We hear it a lot.

Simple Prong Setting runs Wednesday, October 14, 5-10pm. Five hours, and you'll walk out wearing it.

Best if you've got an intro class behind you and you're ready to start setting stones rather than just fabricating.
